Proof pxt " gain twist barrels"

Listened to several podcasts on these new barrels.

Interesting concept . even though gain twist isn’t new the way proof is employing the concept and the reported results are very interesting.
30-100% increased barrel life , handles high pressure cartridges, more forgiving on seating depth etc…

The hornady podcast that dropped in the last day or so had the most info of the ones I’ve listened to so far.
I had always wondered why gain twist never made it

Now maybe this version will?

Wasn’t sure what you were talking about until I saw this video on it that came out… pretty interesting

Looks cool. People have been playing with gain twist forever. Seems like it could be a good time for it to go mainstream with high pressure cartridges.

Sometime in the past 4-6 months I listened to a podcast with a barrel manufacturer on it. It was either jvb, or John McAdams podcast most likely.

That particular person said gain twist never really panned out to be the end all be all because as soon as the bullet encounters A Different Twist rate in the barrel, it has to re-engrave with the rifling. And then as soon as it changes again, it’s got to engrave again. That leads to increased wear, suboptimal pressures and resistance.

Maybe this new technology has fixed that. Don’t know

That would make sense if they did gain twist in sections versus cutting in a progressive manner.
The numbers they are claiming are impressive. It will be interesting.

Granted this is Proof’s own video and is in full pitch mode, but what they’re claiming here is CRAZY stuff. I was thinking Bartlein for my 25 CM barrel and had ruled out 25 PRC because of barrel life, but this has me thinking 25 PRC may be the way to go. Maybe… or maybe I wait to see what else comes out in the coming months that’s 80K PSI and sexy.

I didn’t see any 25 cal offerings as of yet but I think they plan on making every caliber.

Maybe this new backcountry cartridge will be a 25 cal

One thing about the new alloy cartridge cases that concerns me is they will be difficult to wildcat.
And you probably can’t just have your gunsmith cut am AI chamber.

My gunsmith is doing my 7 backcountry, black arc is already wildcating with the alloy steel cases
