Quick load or GRT

Anyone know the pros of quick load over GRT? I have GRT but I am thinking about buying the quick load software but not sure if it is worth the money.

What I’ve heard (can’t vouch for)

The developer of GRT died several years ago and the product is now owned by his widow. She has decreed that there will be no more updates. Thus there are no modern bullets, powders, or chamberings available. Now there is an online community where people can create those type of things but of course you have no idea if the person you’re communicating with is a balistician at Hornady or some dude in the basement of his parents house.

Quick Load does have updates, but they cost you to download.

GRT 2.0 is being developed; Gordon apparently just didn’t want the source code being released for whatever reason. New bullets and calibers are generally very easy to add as you just need to enter in numbers from the saami drawings, and most new calibers are available. Adding new powders is nearly impossible without a direct way to measure chamber pressure (which is why QL is theoretically worth paying for). Unless what you’re looking for is only available in QL or you’re really in the weeds comparing the two I wouldn’t spend the money personally.

Does quick Load have wildcat cartridges?

Don’t know. Are you interested in a specific one? If so I can try to look it up later tonight when I get home

The Sherman wildcats like the 7 Sherman max

I’m not seeing any Shermans listed. At least for 7mm and 30Cal.

Here’s the Google Drive that’s maintained by one of the mods on the GRT Discord for new calibers - Calibers - Google Drive

Do you have the Google Drive for the projectiles?

As far as I understand there isn’t one; for projectiles simply pick one of similar construction (HPBT, flat bottom, etc.) and clone and adjust the weight and length and you should be good as it doesn’t do any fancy modeling for the exact projectile shape.
