what is your opinion on the 30-06 Springfield ackley improved.
I guess it’s fine to ackleyize a cartridge. To me, it’s a simple question of “would I be willing to pay to get a custom chambering on my gun, and deal with getting custom dies and not be able to get factory ammo, in order to gain 2 grains of powder and trim half as often?”
For me, only thr 280ai meets that requirement because it has decent support.
But then there’s another completely different question, which goes something like “is this cool?” And the answer to that is definitely yes 
So it might be a fun project.

I love ackleys but my thoughts are the 7 Mag gives you so much more of everything. Bullet choices, Low bullet B.C. and flat trajectory. Don’t get me wrong I love the 280 Ackley at 100 FPS slower then the 7mm. I would say save your money, I do not see what you would gain akleyizing a perfectly good 30-06 and pushing it a tad closer to the 300. With all the other choices of standard cartridge’s out there that do better. That all being said P.O. Ackley was a Genius in my eyes with a simple shoulder angle change and the straighter case walls that gives you so much more from that standard cartridges.
Conclusion: We all love to tinker and sometimes tinkering renders results.
