Tomorrow I will become a handgun owner…I lived the first 50 years without a handgun, and intend to live the last 50 years with a handgun. It is a Springfield XDM Elite Compact 10mm Auto. It will be for protection when hunting/hiking, and I intend to practice quite a bit as will my wife and kids. I’m reaching out to all of you to see if anyone has experience with reloading powders that minimize recoil with bullets in the 155gr range. Even though both of my kids have shot a 44magnum and said it was fun, I want them to enjoy the experience and become knowledgeable/accurate hand gunners. That means less recoil for practice rounds and save the heavy stuff for when the bears charge. Do any of you have experience on powders/bullets that lessened the 10mm to make it friendly for the family to shoot?
Congratulations on “coming over to the dark side”
. The only practice rounds that I have loaded up for the 10mm that didn’t break the bank, were with Berry’s bullets and some Unique powder. I’ll have to find the powder charge for you. I loaded them down (about 1 grain lower or so) and they are a pleasure to shoot. The full bear defense rounds are hot and expensive. I recommend using factory Underwood ammo for the actual protection rounds. I alternate their 155 grain Extreme Penetrator and their 185 grain Hard Cast in my magazines. I don’t know if that is necessary, but I’d rather not be on the menu
I fully admit that I’ve never reloaded for pistol.
