Hey Guys
Brand new today
although I have been following Backfire youtube for several years.
Live in SE Idaho and Love to shoot everything.
a story for you, that could have cost some big problems if it had not been figured out.
maybe we should all be a little more aware.
I learned to love reloading from my Dad as did several of my brothers, usually do all my own, but several years ago my Brother was diagnosed with a very aggressive Cancer, and the treatment just knocked him out and he couldn’t work. Was suffering from depression because he said he felt useless. so I Asked him to load up a bunch of 270 rounds that we dident really need, but I wanted him to have something to do that he could do. I bought a bunch of brass and components, and got them to him and a few weeks later I had a couple of cases of 270 in my home.
a few months later we lost him.
jump forward several years to last month. My Son returned home from being gone as a missionary for 2 years, and wanted to go shooting. He took his 270 and 40 rounds of the reloaded ammo.
returned home 20 min later, with a messed up bolt, after firing only 2 rounds. ejector pin was pushed back into the bolthead, and both rounds had blown out the primer.
got investigating my brothers reloading charts that he sent with the loads. and had made a mistake big time that I am sure his illness wasent letting him process properly.
he had the loads 4 grains hotter with imr 4831 than I asked for. not really blaming him in his condition, but it just happened,
still trying to figure out how to fix the bolt. and spent most of last Saturday disassembling 1200 round of 270.
Oh man. Glad he was okay! That’d be quite the welcome home to have an action blow up in his face.
Good reminder to always watch out. Not just with handloads but I’ve also had a few dangerous boxes of factory ammo.
