I’m finally at a point where I can start reloading my own ammo and I’m curious what products everyone prefers and which ones to stay away from. I’ve spent a good amount of time looking at Jim’s recommendations on the site so I have a good idea of where to start but I’m sure there’s so many other pieces that would help a lot with the process. I’m starting from practically no knowledge at all so any help would be appreciated. Budget is not a major issue but it would be nice to know which things are worth spending the extra money on and which ones aren’t necessary.
I’m in the same boat but man, I have to say, I think Jim covered this from A-Z in his videos and lists with low-medium-high options columns. He also has said that he would update it over time as new products hit and he tests them out.
I am curious as to what responses your posts will get with others and their opinions if they have thoughts on something different and why.
I pick this kind of extra info from watching a dedicated reloading channels. You wont find any on youtube, but Rumble has a few. The production quality isn’t high, but there is some nuggets to be learned. Examples… 76HighboyReloading, Andy79Z28 Reloading, Ultimate Reloading on Rumble.
I pretty much went with a combo of the intermediate and pro columns depending on price to benefit. For instance I went with the larger capacity Frankford Arsenal tumbler because it also has a timer. I also got a dehydrator because it’s just faster than air drying and I don’t want to find empty cases all over the house because of an extremely interested 4yr old boy

Cory, this is a great topic. I had to laugh on Jim’s video Buying Reloading Gear where he said “there are so many guys that bought a rock chucker cheap press 20 years ago.” THAT IS ME! I was in graduate school twenty years ago when I bought mine just to load my 22-250. Manual scale, manual caliper, manual powder dispenser, manual trickler, dry medium… I built a new garage during COVID and was inspired to get it set up, but haven’t used it for almost 18 years. A lot has happened since then when it comes to reloading technology. I think I will start with a digital caliper and a good powder machine. Reloading for me was more therapeutic, so I didn’t mind taking so much time on each bullet.
Now I have to review the bullet seating depth and I should be good to start up again. However, the Shoulder Bump thing is new to me and I never measured it before. It never came up in the forum that I was on 20 years ago. That is a new topic for me.
