I just got my gun back from a gunsmith. Before taking it in it was so far off I couldn’t hunt with it. I would hit 8 inches low and the next shot would be that much high sometimes. So they cleaned it tightened the scope rings and mounts and then shot it at 50 yard’s. They say a 3 inch group is considered good for a 742 at 50 yards. Mine shot better at about 2.5 inches. So what do I do now? Is there any hope for this gun for hunting at say under 150 yards even? This was a used gun I got at age 13 and have shot many deer with. And missed some running deer as well on deer drives. One of the most fun ways to hunt I have to say
How old is this gun?
I don’t know. Bought in 1991 used my dad got it for me
I would try some different ammo to see if you can find one thats shoots better.
Yes will be doing that. Hopefully it was just the scope was loose overall. When I shot it before taking it in I did try some different amo. One was a copper load so was thinking maybe that was why it was off
