I need to replace the stock on my daughters Tikka T3x lite 270win. The stock is awful and it does nothing to control recoil. I put a backfire pad on it that helped a lot. My other gripe is that it’s not threaded and the local gunsmith is hesitant to thread the barrel. Back to topic. I am looking at the MDT Field, GRS Bifrost or any stock that one of you have had luck with. I am very frustrate that I suggested the rifle to my son-in-law, but it was in his budget. Help…
If a chassis style stock is an option, Jim is making one. If you’re on a tighter timeline, I have 2 rifles on the Ultradyne chassis and I really like it. Best part, not nearly as expensive as MDT
Pure Precision makes a great drop in stock for Tikka. It’s called the Pure Precision Altitude Tikka.
If it is at all an option, get a suppressor. The reduction in sound and recoil will do more than any other modification you could make.
They should be able to thread it. Sometimes they can’t get it 5/8x24 on those thinner barrels, but should be able to do a 1/2x28 and use an adapter.
Another option would be to have the gunsmith adding a shoulder of you want it threaded to 5/8x24.
Jim, i remember when you shot the Tikka 7PRC and your thoughts on the Tikka stock. Given a choice for a hunting stock what would you have replace that plastic with?
KRG echo is a nice stock and reasonably priced
I really like the GRS Bifrost. I have one coming for a Rem 700. I also have a Fenris that works great on my Weatherby Vanguard
The Echo looks interesting for the price. It is a little heavier to absorb some recoil and definitely one to consider. All of the stock suggested would be a good replacement.
For what it is worth. The Tikka Altitude Carbon Fiber stock is on sale for 28% off.
I agree, I have the exact same rifle it’s a great rifle minus the stock but honestly, it’s still a great rifle even with the stock the way it is. I’m holding out for the one. Jim is going to release soon. I doubt it’ll get here by hunting season, but he said the price should be competitive if not cheaper than what’s already on the market and I think you’d be better off supporting his research and company who doesn’t like being on the ground floor of an up coming company product with the ear of the maker right at your fingertips (oh that sounds weird. Don’t read into that.)
Agreed with @TuSventyWins. But if you are looking for something to use this fall. I would highly recommend either the Pure Precision Tikka Altitude which is on a killer sale right now. Or the Iota EKO Tikka stock is Fantastic as well!
I did really like the Iota stock as well if you want something traditional. Also just got a Rokstok I’m testing out and liking a lot so far, but you generally have to watch for orders to open for them and would likely not be here in time for the hunting season.
Looking at the GRS on sale also

Jim, I bought the GRS Bifrost Stock Tikka T3/x. Do you have a recoil pad that fits this stock? Thanks.
Yep! We have a GRS pad.
If you don’t mind waiting. Peak 44 has been my fav trying different stocks.
I just finished putting her Tikka action the GRS Bifrost. I have to say from just ergonomics it feels really good and everything fir. I didn’t have to sand and modify. I will know more when we get out and shoot it. Got the Backfire pad and put on it as well. What put it over the top was the price on Eurooptic. Thanks everyone and I’ll give an update when it’s not a 105 heat index.
Please keep us in the loop!!!
Will do. Need to be cooler than 110F heat index before we go out. She loves the GS tock on the rifle but the test will be when she shoots it. While she could handle the recoil from the original stock, it still was pretty stiff. She could tell a big difference on the original when put on a backfire pad. It will still be a 270 Win but hope this stock ergonomics will help absorb some of the recoil. She normally shoot a 130gr so will report the subjective thoughs.
Ok, we finally got out to the range today. Very happy with the GRS Bifrost. Felt great, the felt recoil was less in our opinion and it was easier to get better groups. We were shooting 136gr Federal Terminal Ascent. There are a lot of good stocks out there this the one we picked. My daughter really likes how it feels. A lot of this is being able to adjust the LOP, cheek riser adjusting and angle of the stock into the shoulder. She tried different lengths and angles until comfortable. I think especially for for female shooter this all helped.
