Rifles taylored to women and small framed individuals

Hey @backfire, My Wife and I were listening to the Mancast a while back and you spoke momentarily about the Bagara B14 stoke. This spurred a conversation between her and I about rifles designed for smaller shooters, women in particular. We think this could be a cool episode for you and Emily to do as it was an adventure for us to find my wife a new rifle not long ago.

My wife is a hunting machine, she spent many years helping feed our family with an old (1976) model 700 in 270 win we picked up at the local pond shop when we first got married. Later in life when we weren’t poor newly weds I convinced her (seriously months of twisting her arm) that she deserved a brand new hunting rifle of her own, something that actually fit her (5’3" small frame). She ended up with a Weatherby Mark v Camilla in 280 AI. For her it fits perfect, smaller for-end, grip and higher comb combined with the sweet caliber that is the 280 AI has made it the everythinggfun for her here in Oregon.

Now back to the episode we’d love to see, multiple small framed shooters matched up with Guns offering shorter LOP, slimmed up for-ends, grips, and Calibers that don’t punish you but can drop everything you might want to hunt. Here is a short list of some that are currently on the market I’m sure their are more. Thank you for all your great content and God Bless!

That’d be a great video. Good list of women’s guns. Really like the Sig Cross for women. The Stoke looks good but haven’t shot it personally yet.

Now with more options then when we started it would be cool to see how they stack up against each other. The manufacturers have all taken different approaches from full chassis to fully redesigning a traditional stock, some just say shorten the length of pull and send it, and others say paint it pink, purple, or teal and you are set no need to make it fit differently.

My wife’s stipulations were simple:
Fitment
Traditional stock
not a “girly color” but attractive
and a caliber to do it all and not beat her up.

Id be curious what more women want and what is important to them. Also how many would become more regular shooters and hunters if they had a gun suited to them both size and caliber. Too many times just like with kids we throw a magnum at someone and just ruin the experience for them.

This is such a great idea. Those Weatherby’s are tough to beat. I would add a couple lever guns to this list–e.g. Henry or the new Ruger made Marlins in .30-30 or even like .357 or 44 mag (I just picked up the new 1894 Classic in .357 mag recently and they are very nice–would be a good fit for smaller shooters being shorter, handy, lightweight, etc.). My wife will shoot the lever guns but doesn’t like the louder and harder hitting bolt actions.

@backfire --if you want one of these Ruger-Marlins to review or to use in a comparison with other “lady-hunter-friendly” guns, I can send you mine to review, as long as you promise to send it back

Awesome addition! I definitely agree a lever gun should be in the mix, I started off with a lever gun as a kid and it never felt to big. @backfire add Lever Gun in the mix.
