Savage 110 Trail Hunter lite vs Ruger America Gen 2

Savage just recently came out with this new lite version and it looks very similar to the Ruger American Gen 2. Cost is a bit less from what I have seen. Is it worth the savings? I little bit heavier, around a half pound but maybe it will be a bit more accurate because of it. It’s got the fluted barrel, threaded and 20 inch length for us that want to put a can on it. One other thing is the Savage is going to be in a wide variety of calibers 15 to be exact. I was set on the Ruger but now with this new option coming soon I’m not so sure.

I’m still having feeding issues with the savage. The ruger seems to have fixed that.

Both are very accurate.

Ruger is half pound lighter but that’s not always a good thing.

I give the stocks a tie. Both have pros and cons.

Ruger has a better trigger but neither one is great. I’d still plan for a trigger upgrade.

I can see it going both ways and I can’t judge it until I review it, but I’d lean Ruger.

Thanks Jim that’s what I was leaning towards. The new savage should be a good one as it’s an improvement over some of the other savage options. And the savages I have work well with no big issues. The trigger was the one thing I had to modify and that was not hard to do and cost was minimal.

I know its not the Trial Hunter. I picked up the AXIS II XP TERRA GILA CAMO in 22-250 a couple months ago. I cycled the bolt maybe half a dozen times and the bolt stuck! I had to use an extreme amount of force removing the bolt. It’s at Savage now being looked at.

Never was a Savage fan because of the bolt removal and the feed issue. Had a Savage in 6.5 PRC, not to my liking. it’s 4 sale. Ruger American in 6.5 CM sub MOA all day long. No feeding issues ever. I’d go Ruger
