Scope for old eyes

I need a lightweight, budget friendly (<$800), 24x minimum magnification scope for a new lightweight hunting rifle I bought. I know that Jim’s video said that no more than 18x but my old tired eyes really appreciate the increased magnification.

Any suggestions?

Athlon Ares BTR Gen II HD 4.5-27x50. $609 on Amazon for the scope:

I find the scope to be well made, crisp optics and well suited for my nearly 60 year old eyes.

Good question, and I definitely understand adapting to individual needs. Having said that, I made a few shots at a MILE on 15x this week.

The real problem with too much magnification is you can’t spot your impacts during recoil.

Having said that, I think the athlon recommendation above is a solid option.

Are you a veteran? If so you can get ziess v4 conquest on ExpertVoice for 900ish 6-24x50 they also offer big discounts on vortex, Burris, GPO, US optics, and Athlon. You can also check out AA Optics they sell all vortex refurbished optics at discount.

A couple weeks ago I bought the Arken EP5. 5-25x. I haven’t put it through its paces yet, but I absolutely love my Arken EPL4 4-16. And for $500 nobody can touch it value wise. Yes, its chineesium but uses Japanese glass and it doesn’t lack for quality. Best scopes I have used and way way better than any vortex or similar that I have used.

Does country where the glass is made make a difference? Mostly I think it is requirements and testing by the company hold the manufacturer accountable. Of course this still goes to cost. Tolerance during manufacturing and testing is money. But I do hear a lot of people being negative about chinese or philipineo glass. If there is a general trend then ok but I have had a lot of stuff made in china - electronics and plastics - and we controlled the manufacturing test and what was a pass or fail and help fix the system when outside our boundaries and force final pass yield as a predictor of field failures. The factories did what we said and we audited all the time.
I am not saying that chinese glass is better or worse but anyone can make crap anywhere.
