Scope Purchase Help

I am debating between 2 scopes.
Athlon Helos BTR GEN2 4-20x50 for $590
Vortex Optics Diamondback Tactical 6-24x50 for $450

What would you guys do? The scope will be used for western big game hunting/long range shooting and predator/varmint shooting as well.

I have both - Athlos 100% better glass. Its what’s on my western hunting rifle. I have the Element Titan as well and find the glass very comparable between the 2, but the Athlon is over a pound lighter.

Thank you @BEN. I appreciate the info. So you are saying the extra $150 for the Athlon Helos is worth the money than correct?

It is to me. Most shots I’ve taken on game have been in low light, that’s when the glass makes the difference.

Okay cool. Thank you for the input. I really appreciate it. I will wait until the Athlon Helos BTR GEN2 4-20x50 comes back in stock

Could be quite a while before that comes back. Athlon said they may have trouble continuing with that scope. I’m switching over to the Element Titan for my “go-to” but it’s a bit more money.

Is the Element that much better than the Athlon? I’ve never had an Element so I’m just wondering.

Both are good scopes. The Element has more precise tracking and in my opinion better glass quality. Helos is lighter weight if that’s what you want.

If I had to make one critical shot at 1000 yards, I’d take the element titan for sure. If I wanted a lightweight but very capable hunting scope I’d grab the Helos.

@backfire

Will you be offering Element scopes for sale?

What would be your scope recommendation For both hunting and some lang range shooting?

The Titan is solid, and for the money is a great scope. But the Athlon is lighter, cheaper and a much better value. IMO, the glass on the Titan isn’t that much better.

If, like Jim said, the Helos is out of stock and not available, I’d look at the Titan if you can manage the weight. If not, check out the Athlon Ares 4.5-27. Its about $100 cheaper than the Titan if you can find a deal, otherwise about the same price and a full pound lighter. The Ares is a step up in glass quality over the Helos.

I’ve been a Leupold guy for years and I don’t know for the money if they are superior anymore as everyone has the lifetime warranty and good glass

Both great scopes but if you go Vortex id get the Viper HD 5-25x50 the glass is much better and its lighter than the Diamondback.
