I’ve seen shooters shoot at 100 the dial 10 mils and shoot again. They measure the distance from impacts to make sure the scope moved 10mil. That takes a tall vertical target. Could you shoot at 100 then dial the amount of hold under your scope has and then shoot using that hold under. Wouldn’t the impacts be the same point? I know that amount of error wouldn’t be as much as 10 mil but it might give an idea of how true the scope is.
It’s be pretty tough to do that way.
You’d almost always find that it tracks correctly with that test because it’s a small amount of adjustment and the dispersion of the group you shoot already is imprecise.
It takes a lot of adjustment (and an accurate rifle) to know for sure if it’s tracking properly.
Are there any culprits that are known not to track that should be avoided? Are we okay trusting vortex, Leupold, NF, etc? Or are there particular lines of optics we should avoid even in the popular brands?
checking every optic for tracking seems onerous… lol
