Scope with rougher adjustments?

Most scopes seem to adjust .25 moa or .1 mils per click, does anyone know if there are scopes with exposed turrets and less fine adjustments so you don’t have so many clicks to move out to further distances, etc.? Even like 1 moa instead of .25?? Seems like this would be plenty accurate for most hunting applications, and potentially easier to use. Thoughts on this, and any recommendations?

Well your turrets are marked. If you need 4.5 moa it will take a second to twist to that by the big moa numbers and count 2 past that. All very fast. Also any animals that need an moa adjustment are a long ways out. Most rifles to 300 do not need a scope adjustment. If the animal is not spooked and moving at 400 yds or more gives you time to dial it up. If it is moving at that range probably not a good shot to take anyways. And 1 moa error at 400 yds or more can be a miss of vitals. If a cartridge is 4 moa at 400 and 7 moa at 500 this is a difference of 19 inches. Too much margin of error for all the ranges in between like 450 yds. Just my opinion.

Way to much movement with 1 moa. Marks on the turret are all you will ever need. If your scope turrets are not marked then you will have to count clicks. That’s very hard to do fast and then return to zero. Most shots to 500 for big game are doable without adjustment of the scope if you know you bullet drop by going out and shooting at different ranges and seeing where you hit. Wind is a different matter all together but doable with practice also.

Haven’t seen any scope with rougher adjustment, but for me I can only see this saving milliseconds in exchange for less precision.

For me it’s more about counting less clicks than saving time (I always seem to lose count or have to double check myself which is annoying). I also read in Ryan Cleckner’s book for beginners that he actually prefers rougher adjustments for long range (but this could be due to his military background too). The scope he recommends in that book doesn’t seem to be available anymore, however.

You should really only count 3 clicks max. Land on the main number without counting. If you count past 3 you are to the next integer number. On my VX6 I have 20 moa per revolution. So say 8 moa range - less than half a turn on your turret. Depending on scope your mileage may vary.
