Seating Depth/ Powder charge 6.5 PRC load dev

Doing some load development, and not quite sure what to think. Shot these four rounds to check for pressure, and it looks like 56, 55, and 54 have some pressure. 53 looks great. However, the minimum powder charge for H1000 with a 127 lrx is 52. Is 53 too low? Or would pulling seating depth back also allow me to shoot more powder? Very confused on how to continue with load development. Current seating depth is 40 thou off lands. Started at 20 thou and was seeing more pressure with the same powder charges.

What I have found to be the most statistically valid and straightforward approach to reloading is to simply decide on a couple “recipes” for reloading with at least 15 shots and go shoot them to see if it performs well.

So you might try 56gr of h1000 loaded 90 thou (0.09”) off the lands with a Barnes LRX. That stands a decent chance of working well. You’re 2 grains under the max charge weight and you should still hit 3,000fps in a 24” barrel.

Then you may want to try 57gr h1000 with a 143 ELDX loaded 30 thou off the lands.

I noticed in your message that you mentioned seeing pressure. I’m not seeing pressure on any of the cases in that picture, though it’s cut off on one side. Did you notice a heavy bolt lift? That’s usually the most common first sign. I almost never see pressure if I’m 1 or 2 grains down from the book max, but the LRX does ramp up pressure more than other bullets.

No heavy bolt lift at all, and primers didn’t seem flat. However, i was noticing the ejector swipe. But not sure if that is a false positive or not.

Are those ejector swipes not from pressure?

You should start with a minimum of .050 thou of jump with Barnes bullets and go from there. Good luck, I’ve never been able to get LRX’s to shoot well.

Ejector swipe is the most likely sign to be a false positive in my experience. The one I watch for most is the heavy boot lift, but all of the signs are good info.

Personally, I wouldn’t be concerned about those marks if you’re also under the published max.

Thanks! I had them shooting .8 moa at 20 thou from the lands with 57 grains. So maybe ill mess around with 50 and 90 thou and see what happens.

Thanks! Ill do some more load testing and see if i can get an accurate load, and just watch for the heavy bolt lift.
