For you guys that have one or have had the chance to shoot and handle the fierce mountain reaper what do you like or don’t like about it. I’ve been wanting to get a sig cross for a while but the lack of calibers is pushing me away from it. The caliber I’m looking at getting is the 7prc in a 20 inch barrel and then putting a banish backcountry suppressor on it. Or if somebody has a suggestion on a different brand I’m open for suggestions, really like the folding stock/chassis style of rifle.
I have the mountain reaper in 300 prc. I LOVE THIS RIFLE! I got a 22” barrel and run a CGS Hyperion. I did 20 round break in and the sighted it in and watched the groups get better and better. 1”- .75”- .5”- .38” literally four groups each one shrank as I got used to the rifle. That’s with factory precision hunter 212gr. I noticed what I thought was tiny air bubbles on pistol grip and cheek riser and sent them back in to be replaced but turns out it isn’t air bubbles but spray on texturing. The sent them right back with a free hat customer service was great. Honestly I think they should lose the texture but it is a beautiful rifle accurate AF. Light, packable and the action is very smooth. I was worried the titanium action would be sticky but just needs to be broke in and it’s super smooth. I think 7 prc is a good choice, great for anything and ammo will become available, I think it will take off. 300 prc hits with 1500 lb/ft of energy at 1000 yards! Love that. I put a ziess v4 6-24 on it and it is very good glass. Eye box little finicky at full zoom but get rider in right spot and golden.
The mountain reaper is cool, but I honestly wish I’d gone with the less expensive Reaper (not mountain).
The mountain reaper has a titanium action, which saves weight, but it’s just a bit more sticky. Fierce’s regular reaper has the stainlesss action that feels flawless.
Thanks for the input!
Jim,
You have cross as well and you have noted that it’s one of your favorite rifles to shoot and it’s about half the cost, do you see sig coming out with new calibers anytime soon? I sold a new in box Christensen ridgeline 300prc that I won in a raffle so my budget is a little higher this time than it was when I got my begara hunter 7mm rem mag love the gun but it’s heavy to lug around in the mountains.
Sig has told me they are not going to be releasing a long action version of the cross any time soon, unfortunately.
That’s unfortunate but guess that helps make my decision. Btw thanks for posting all the awesome content!!!
I wish Springfield would release one too for the waypoint.
