Short action magnum…

Well I was board tonight and made the mistake of :eyes: at gunbroker… and there was this Short Action receiver that just seemed like a good deal…. Thought what the hell I’ll throw a quick $700 bid on it.. as I’ll probably get outbidded…. Well 99% of the guys must of been out on the town tonight and I won it… So I ask… what do I build with it now… Kind’of would like to swap out my 307 action for it as I really! Hate the 90deg bolt throw, with very narrow scope clearance…. Or I know where’s there a brand new 22” carbon fiber proof research.264 barrel for sale at $300. Or maybe a 25 prc, 277 fury, or 6.8 western what ya think you’d do if you had this action…

Dang what a steal I would personally go for the 25 prc

Nice find. I’d stay away from 277 Fury at least for now. All the other options would be perfectly reasonable

I am running a 6.5 PRC and a 7 SAUM on my short action. Love them both so far.

What about the Sherman Short Wildcats?

I don’t reload… no time as I’m gone 1/2 the year as a merchant mariner…. Hmmm looking at the 325 WSM, sure looks like it could be a good thumper, if Hornady would start up a 25 prc I’d go that route for sure…

For short action Magnum using only Factory ammo, 6.5 PRC and 300 WSM are the easy buttons. A quick ammoseek search shows that there are thousands of availabilities for both of these.

While I love 7SAUM, a similar search only shows about 120 availabilities with all of it being Remington or Nosler. There is one offering from Gunwerks for 8.75/round. To be fair, when I broke my 7SAUM in, I used the Remington ammo and it actually grouped very nicely.

I wish the 6.8 Western had taken off better and we could have better Factory ammo available for that.

Hopefully 6.8 will start booming soon with savage producing it in their 110 actions. I think that’ll help alot

Yep kind’of stuck, as I have the 22creedmore, 22” barrel. And a 307 in 6.5 prc w/BSF carbon barrel, and a aero solus in 7prc 24” proof barrel. I like the uniqueness of the 325wsm out to 500yrds it’s a thumper, but currently is a dead one with Winchester the only making it, and only offering one load of ammo for it and the other companies dropping out of the race…. So I’m thinking 300 wsm 26” 1-8.5 twist benchmark carbon fiber barrel for shooting 210 bergers

I think the 6.8 western is stuck where it is until one or more cartridge companies start producing ammo for it…
