Shoulder bump issues

Anyone else having problems with their RCBS FL decap/resizing die not being able to bump the case shoulders at all? Have screwed it down as far as it goes and still can’t get the shoulders on my 6.5 creed brass to set back at all. All it does is push the shoulder forward instead of setting the shoulder back. Is there something I’m doing wrong? Or is this a problem with the die itself? Any help would be appreciated!

I had the same problem before
For me it was the pin
It had to stick out a certain amount to be able to bump a shoulder back , so the inside all is there it need to be

I thought I didn’t need it cause it was deprimed already so I had it in side
After I installed where it belong it all worked

First question I’d have is if the brass you resized will cycle in your action. It’s possible that after the first firing, the brass just didn’t quite expand to fit the chamber.

I have only once had this problem and it was with an 8.6 blackout die that, in my press, I just can’t make it push the shoulder. Showed it to several other experienced reloaders and none of us could figure it out. Must just not work well in my press.

Perhaps shimming up the bottom of the shell holder so the brass will hit the shoulder in the die?

It did cycle just fine at first since it was factory Hornady ammo that I shot and kept the brass from to reload. I first noticed it after I tried loading the brass for second fire and it felt difficult to cam the bolt closed. At first I thought it was because my seating depth was too high at 2.158” BTO and I was cramming the bullet into the lands but then finally bought a headspace comparator and realized that my resizing die was making the shoulder push forward instead of bumping it back. I think I’m gonna try to trim off some of the bottom of the die in order to be able to reach the shoulder. Hopefully that works.

What do you mean the die is pushing the shoulder forward? I can’t imagine how that would be possible. I can picture the shoulder not hitting the part of the die that pushes the shoulder, but I can’t imagine how it could suck the shoulder forward.

Meaning the measurement of the base to shoulder, once I zeroed it out to a fire formed case in my headspace gauge, increases in length rather than decreases once I put it through the resizing die. My guess would be because there’s nothing touching that shoulder as it’s being resized, and the body of the case is becoming longer as it’s being fit back to spec. and in turn pushes the shoulder forward if that makes sense. An example of this that I have found is I measured out a piece of fire formed brass, zeroed the caliper with the headspace gauge on it, and then took a loaded reload that I was taking to the range with me to shoot and it’s reading a +0.008 on the caliper rather than -0.002 like you recommend in your reloading course. But no matter how far down I screw my die it won’t bump that shoulder even 0.001 of an inch less.

I had the exact same think then I started with my 280
For me was the die set up
The decap pin had to be out on the button for the right amount , after I set it up like I saw on a video it worked perfect

What do you mean by that? In the manual that comes with the die and the videos that I’ve watched all they have touched on is that the depriming pin just had to be extruded like 1/4 of an inch and that’s all the adjustment that it needed. Am I missing a step with the pin setup?

Sorry English is second language
My pin was to far in then I started
I thought I don’t need it to far out cause it was decaped already
I could not get my shoulder back doesn’t madder what I tried
I friend even called in by rcbs and they wanted me to sent all in so they can find out for me

Then I found a video ( still try to find it ) there a guy showed , that the pin should be about 3/16 or so out ( not sure how much it was right now )
After I set it up like he showed
I got my shoulders back easy

Before they got longer and longer

I try to find it

I think that was it

Sorry but it helped me
Maybe it does the trick for you too
