I’m considering swapping barrels on my Cross and was hoping some of you who shoot a lot more than I do can help out with barrels. I’m probably at 300-400 rounds total through mine and my best groups so far are about .9 MOA. Good results for how much and how often I shoot but I still want something better and plan on shooting a lot more in the future. I want to swap to a 24" since I have no plans to ever use a suppressor (live in CA) and needed some insight on brands. I’m leaning towards Proof or Bartlein. Both are roughly the same price after finishing the blanks and I can get the weight down pretty decent fluting the Bartlein but I have no experience with either brand. Is carbon wrapped really worth it or should I stick with steel based on how I plan on using it?
No experience with Bartlein, but they have an excellent reputation. I have several rifles with proof barrels and they all work exceptionally well. However, I’m with Jim in that I’m getting to the point where I don’t like carbon fiber wrapped. We’re in 100° weather now with high humidity and it takes forever to get a carbon fiber Barrel to cool down after just a few shots.

I agree - and the Proof SS barrels are 1/2 the price of Crabon. If you are never going to BC hunt, then SS is the way to go.
Exactly why I’m leaning towards ss. I found a shop who will finish the bartlein blank and ship for about 875-1000 which doesn’t seem like a bad price at all.
