Sig Cross Barrel

A bit of an odd question but I’m sure many of you have better knowledge that I do. I’m currently in the process of rebarreling my sig cross with a 24” Bartlein and the guy working on it just let me know he had another customer cancel an order ready to ship minus cerakote with the exact same specs as mine just in a 26” barrel. I live in CA so I don’t really need the short barrel to add a suppressor but I’m trying to figure out if adding the extra 2 inches will make that much of a difference or if its better to just wait for my barrel to be finished

Hey Cory. You’ll likely lose 50-60 FPS with the shorter barrel. Whether that matters depends on what bullet, cartridge, and how far you will realistically shoot. Could you give a bit more detail in those areas?

Its a 6.5cm and I was having a lot of trouble with the factory barrel just never quite getting good enough groups for me. They were decent enough to hunt with around 1.1-1.25 inches. I tried everything possible using different bullets, powders, primers, brass, changing charge weight and seating depth but could never find the right combo and just gave up on the factory barrel. Most shots will be less that 350-400 in a hunting scenario so I guess I don’t really need the 26” but it would probably take a few months off waiting for mine. Also looking into using for precision shooting at a local club but it will primarily be used for hunting with copper bullets. I’ll have to redo load development but I’ll test the ttsx, lrx, etip, and possibly the cx but I have yet to have any positive results with those in the past.

You should be fine with the shorter 24” barrel, even with the monolithic bullets.

The 127 LRX and 120 TTSX both have over 2k FPS still at 400 yards and should expand reliably. CX may be a viable option with hand loads, I haven’t seen a single rifle shoot the factory stuff from Hornady well.

In a Creedmoor those extra 2 inches aren’t really going to give you a whole lot of extra range. Therefore I would personally get the shorter Barrel sooner.

I let the guy know I’llstick with my order but I’m hoping he just gives me the 26 or let’s me have it for a great price. I had decent luck with the 127 lrx and the 120 etip so I’ll start with those but the 130 cx was absolutely horrible. Maybe the longer barrel will help a little but I don’t have a lot of faith in them
