SIG Cross Opinions

Picking up my new 6.5cm Cross in a few days and I’m curious what everyone else’s opinions are. I’ve watched pretty much every video available and was worried about the safety issues but haven’t seen the same issue with the newer rifles. Either way I’m super excited to pick it up and play around with it for a while.

with Hornady Hornady precision hunter 143 grain eld-x in 6.5cm at 100 yards my sig cross shot a group of .503 of an inch. Also the safety has the sticky ness right before its on safe.

Unfortunately ammo matters quite a bit I’m stuck in California so I need to find good copper ammo. I’ve had good lick with barnes in the past but i have some hornady GMX and some of the new CX I’m going to try out. I have a few boxes of the ELD-X I think I’m going to use to break in the barrel and get it sighted in.

I just picked up mine in 308 and eager to get on the range. Any thoughts on barrel break-in? Does it matter or not?

I didn’t follow the exact way SIG recommended but did my own and it shoots fantastic. I’m not going to say I’m the best shot in the world but the best ammo I’ve found got me about 1.15 MOA at 100 yards with a 5 shot group. I wasn’t shooting off a rest but rather off a bipod on a table so I expect it to shoot much better on a solid rest.

I’m kind of a rebel. I don’t normally do any break in procedure. I’m not convinced it’s actually going to make a huge difference whether you break it in or not. I do at least clean the rifle several times in the first 200 rounds. After that, I really only clean when there’s a problem (depending on the cartridge).

I’m with Jim, while I have done it in the past I’m not sure it did any good at all.

Thanks for the insight Jim. I was on the fence if I should break in the barrel or not. I have done it on all of my other rifles but wanted to get the insight and recommendations from all of the concentration of knowledge and experience that this community offers. Thank you all for your input.

I’ve got one in 6.5CM as well and can’t say enough good things about it. It’s such an easy shooter, especially with a can on it. You’ll enjoy it for sure.

llb90ai, I’m really curious about the accuracy of your new 308 Cross. I’m interested in that gun but have seen numerous YT videos and good accuracy was was not consistent across those videos. Please update us on how your guns shoots and handles. Thanks

Will do once I take it out to the range. Hope to do that by end of this week.

Hey Cory, fellow Californian here. I’ve been shooting mostly Barnes too, but want to try out the Hornady CX. Let us know how you like it.

I shot the Barnes TTSX 120gr, Hornady GMX Superformance 120gr, and the Hornady Outfitter with the 120gr CX on two separate occasions to verify and the Barnes shot the best for me both days. I was getting about a 1 inch group at 100 yards with the Barnes off a mediocre rest so I know it can shoot better with a solid rest. The GMX was alright, maybe a 1.25 inch group and the CX was the worst of both days with almost a 2 inch group. I’m sure I could shoot better with all three if I had a proper rest instead of a small bipod and a sand bag.

Fencepost2000, Here is how my Sig Cross 308 16” shot with some of the ammo I had. I shot this with an Area419 Hellfire muzzle brake on it.

BTW, the round pasty targets are 2” in diameter.

What ever happened to the new calibers for the Cross?

Still only 308 and 6.5CM?

Still no new calibers released other than 277 fury but I saw a video on YouTube a while back of some guys shooting a 300winmag model that was in development. In Jim’s shotshow video a year or two ago he talked to a guy at sig who said they were working on a bunch of new chamberings so hopefully they actually make that happen.

Yeah, I thought they were supposed to be out at the end of last year. Or heck, it may have been even earlier than that.

llb90ai. Thank you for the update and the photos! This rifle is on my radar for my next hunting rifle. I have seen that this rifle is kinda picky when it comes to factory ammo and that it may be due to the short barrel. I really like the concept of having a packable hunting rifle that still maintains decent accuracy. Again, thank you for the update.

Not too shabby! Good accuracy results. Thanks for sharing.

I do a simple break in, 1shot clean with copper solvent let it sit a few then run bore snake down it couple times, then three shots, solvent and bore snake total three times. That equals ten shots. Then I go to 5 shots solvent and bore snake repeat one time. Totals one box of ammo 20 rounds, cheapest stuff I can find. Also work on the zero while I do it. After that I clean it after every range day .
