Sig sawtooth suggestion

Good afternoon fellow hunters and shooters:+1: I’m looking to purchase sig sawtooth and debating between the 7 prc and the 300prc. I know I’ve seen that Jim has the sawtooth in 300 prc:grinning_face: Jim can you comment on the recoil in that platform? I’m a 300 prc fan boy but it’s over kill for what I’m hunting. I hunt elk when I get drawn but mostly I’m a passionate mule deer hunter. Most my shots will be between 100 to 500 yds thx for any suggestions you all might have thx

Where you hunt, do you put in a lot of miles on foot?

Hey Ben, I put a lot off miles on foot on elk hunts not so much with deer

I live in AZ so wide open country and plains

I already have a browning xbolt in 6.8 western that I would use on deer and from what I hear and read the 6.8 western is good for elk as well but I was raised on magnum calibers and it’s hard to get my mind to switch lol

I’d see if you can find one in stock somewhere, or order one through a major store, so that you can put your hands on one, and get a feel of the extra weight that it carry’s over some of it’s competitors. At least if you order one at a major store and you don’t like it, you will at least be able to get reimbursed.

I asked because the Sawtooth is so heavy. It’s biggest downfall as an elk gun is the weight. But if you’re OK lugging it around, it’s hard to argue the displacement benefit of 30 cal over 284.

It’s biggest benefit is the piece upper. If I hadn’t already purchased a 6.5 CM, I would get the Cross and shoot the 6.5 +peak as an elk capable gun because it’s so reliable.

I have the Sig Cross Sawtooth in 7PRC. I am a huge fan. Recoil is very manageable, I have a back stop recoil pad on it and the brake that it comes with works very well. I am shooting 175 ELDx with H1000 and seating quite long at 3.370’’ COL. As mentioned above, it is on the heavier side, so I wouldn’t choose it to do serious backcountry hunting but it is manageable when only hiking a few miles. Recently shot a pig at 575 yards, only needed one shot. It’s the gun I know will shoot well every time. I also have the Sig Cross Sawtooth in 6.5 Creedmoor with the 24’’ barrel and it does not shoot as well as the 7PRC.
