This is a short on Youtube. I have never even heard of doing this this, let alone try it. Has one tried a sighter shot on a deer/elk to get a wind call?
Yeah, it’s a thing. Long range hunters do it with a silencer. There’s always the risk the deer will spook just as you take the second shot, but more than likely they’ll just look up and freeze.
Interesting, but I can’t say that I’m super shocked. Just this last Sunday I was doing some work in my backyard. I ended up shooting some 45 Long Colt, probably about 20 rounds. Then I went about doing some other yard work with my wife. We ended up starting a fire to burn some debris. About 30 minutes later I walked into one of my fields and got within 10 yards of a deer that was within 50 yards of where I was when I did all that shooting. It was just laying there, it did jump when I got close to it.
But there are other days where you can’t step on a rock without them noticing it and jumping and running quickly.
For a long range shot like that, I would also think that having a suppressor on might make a difference
So, unsuppressed this isn’t a good idea then? An what would think is the mininum distance?
Oh, I’ve also seen more than one deer walk across the rifle range at my local shooting club. This is despite having five six or even 10 people shooting high-powered rifles unsuppressed. The deer just doesn’t care in certain instances. But once hunting season starts everything changes!
I was actually more surprised the deer didn’t spook from the guys Nascar suit.
