Has anyone done a public Archery Antelope hunt in South Dakota. I drew a tag and looking for pointers if it’s possible to do DIY or really need an outfitter.
Sorry, haven’t hunted South Dakota yet. Hopefully someone on here will have done it to point you in the right direction.
This really depends on a lot of factors. I have taken multiple SD antelope mostly in the Northwest part of the state. Spot and stalk is possible, but be prepared physically and mentally for many attempts. The terrain is pretty flat and they like to hang out in the wide open. Most times you will run out of cover well before you can close the distance for archery. The best bet is to find a rancher that will let you set up on a water source and plan on all day sits in a blind. Two years ago they were in a severe drought and this set up worked fantastic on a cattle waterer. If it is wet year it may be be more challenging and I would try to have as many days as possible to get it done. Good luck on your hunt.
Can’t help with SD. All my archery pronghorn has been ID. Fun but tough business. But I love it. I find that the pronghorn has the uncanny ability to find the center point of an area that is equal distance from any form of cover that could be used to sneak up on them. Truly amazing how they do that. Have hunted in blinds over water and almost connected. Stupid peep site twisted.
Congrats on getting drawn. Find some water near sighted goats and go in the dark and set up a blind. Prepare to sit in the oven for long hours.
