Anyone have experience with Tract? The reviews all seem really good for the pricing, and it’s almost all they’re using now at Barbour Creek shooting school. Most curious as I’m looking for a new spotting scope. I’d love a kowa or swaro, but hard to justify over $2k for something I won’t use much, as I primarily hunt in the southeast (Tennessee in particular). So mostly will be for range use. I’ve also looked at the vortex razor and Leupold sx5, but it’s tough when you can’t see them in person. Would love any/all opinions.
I’ve only played with Tract a little bit at shows so I don’t have first hand experience. They seemed fine.
However, I will say that Tracy has a very aggressive influencer outreach so that may be why you’re seeing a lot of them. Again, it may be that they really are good. But they are also sending lots of free optics.
That’s really good information, I appreciate it. Do you have any that you have used in the field and like, sub $2,000? I can get a Vortex razor viper 30% off, so that’s been tempting, but I also want to get something really good one time. I just don’t really want to go all the way up to $3000 for Swarovski or Kowa
as a sidenote, I got one of your backfire suppressor covers, and I have used almost every suppressor cover out there, and yours is amazing, by far the best I’ve tried. I absolutely love it. Stays on well and it’s easy to put on. T&K are highly overrated and come apart since they tighten at one spot. Cole tac are nice, but ride forward. I think you absolutely nailed it with your design. Just ordered another one.
Having used Swarovski binos/spotter of my hunting time, I will say that Leupold Gold Ring spotter and Vortex Razor spotter/riflescopes are great for the money. 40x on a spotting scope is typically the most you will physically be able to use with mirage interfering alot above that most of the day.
That’s good to hear. I have Leica binos and was afraid to be cheap, but I can’t imagine a razor won’t get the job done
Really appreciate that comment on the backstrap suppressor covers. I spent waaay too long working on that design. Seems simple but it took us like 9 months. Means a lot to hear that all the effort is noticed.
I diddo that comment, Jim. I had it at the range yesterday and it was the first cover I’ve used that stayed put. I do hope it is successful for you so you can add in a few more lengths.
You might give the sig sauer Oscar 8 spotting scope, all the online reviews I’ve seen on them have been really good.
This is one that intrigued me, along with the Leupold sx5 Santiam, which I honestly think is the same scope. Exact same specs! But I can get the Leupold 30% off, and their warranty is phenomenal.
Both have great warranties both assembled in Oregon, I looked long and hard at 15x56 bino’s before I finally went with the Sig Zulu 9 15x56, there amazing. I did drop them put a big scratch on the glass all my fault called Sig they had a pre paid shipping asap sent it to them and had them returned in less then 2 weeks with the lens good as new, not sure if they replaced the lens or what, but they were the same bino’s
That’s awesome, thank you so much for your input. I appreciate it.
So has anyone used this the Sig Sauer Oscar 8 27-55x80mm Spotting Scope. How does It perform in lower light? How good can you resolve out to 500 yds ?
@jferreira414 Did you select something? Im interested. Like you this will primarily be for range use eventually there is a shot Id take in to the field . I was looking at the Sig Oscar 8 Reading about Swaro Big $’s is this a buy once cry once thing or for the range at 200-300 yards is It really not worth It. I can get the Oscar 8 on ExpertVoice for 40% off.
If I was to buy a swaro what’s the highest mag I would need ?
Thanks
@backfire have you Dona shoot out on an array of spotting scopes?
Swaro or any optic like it (S&B, Zeiss, Kahles) are over kill for the range IMO. They excel in low light and clarity which is maximized in hunting scenarios. I left March off, because they really are a ELD scope with exceptional glass.
For what you are looking for almost anything will work. My range goes out to 1500 yards and I also wanted to be able to use it for glassing on Western hunts, I haven’t selected anything yet, but I might go with the Vortex razor because I can get a really good deal on one. The sig Oscar 8 looks really cool, and would be way more than sufficient for what you are using it for. I don’t use anything when shooting out to 500.
Has anyone looked through the CRONUS G2 DUAL FOCUS 20-60x85 ED
The other spotting scope that gets over looked and you can find it very reasonably, and has scored high against the euro’ brands is a Pentax PF-80ED 20-60x80
I have their High-Precision Pentax PF-100ED 100mm Spotting Scope. They don’t make it any more, but you can find used on both ebay and Amazon. Awesome scope., and great glass. The used on Amazon are discounted huge. But it is huge, that might be a consideration, extra weight.
B and H still carry’s Pentex spotting scopes as does focus camera, there out there, and if you look and long range shooting reviews there rated very high. I only sold mine because I won a Swarovski 20-60x80 at sportsman’s during there anniversary sale. But side by side my the Swarovski my friends and I really didn’t see any difference, except that the Swarovski is more compact and user friendly
I got mine from Focus Camera, at the time for around $1925 about 4 years ago.
