Springfield 2020 Waypoint

Hey Jim it’s been a minute since you spotlighted the Waypoint. After shooting many other riffles do you still hold the waypoint in the same regards? I have a 6.5 cm and am thinking about the 6.5 prc . My 6.5 cm Bergara HMR and Seekins Havak Hit. Is there enough gained to drop $ 2500 on the Waypoint. I do have shoulder issues. Hence not looking to go with much larger caliber.

Good question. Brings up two things.

First, is 6.5 PRC worth it if you already have a Creedmoor? Sometimes. I have a Fierce Mountain Reaper in 6.5 PRC with a 20” barrel. I’m only getting a velocity of 2787fps. That’s only BARELY faster than the Creedmoor with the same load. So if you have a 24” Creedmoor and a 20” PRC, don’t expect much difference.

If you’re looking for a new cartridge but light on recoil, maybe consider a 280 Ackley Improved? Can be a little tough to find rifles chambered in it though.

Next, is the Waypoint worth it? It’s a tremendous gun. But, I believe it’s now bested by the Fierce Rogue and Bergara Premier Divide. It would be really tough for me to choose between those three guns as they are all pretty awesome.

Thank you for you for the information. I will dig into the 280.

Got me a 280 Ackley over the summer. It’s a fierce rage. Got a heck of a deal on it due to a screw up on my dealer’s part. Run it with a dead air suppressor on the end.

I can’t say how massively impressed I am with this rifle. Ammo for 280 Ackley right now is available and last time I looked it’s actually more available than the Plain Jane 280 remington. Also some of the more Boutique ammo makers like Copper Creek and choice ammo make great rounds for it. I’m in the middle, actually hoping to be finishing up load development with it right now.

Yesterday I took it and my old school 270 to the range. The 270 is a wood stocked, no threaded barrel, old school gun. The 280 is shooting a heavier bullet and is a kitten compared to the 270 in terms of how your shoulder feels.

I’ve been impressed with recoil mitigation on Fierce rifles. They have good stock lines and a semi-okay recoil pad.

I’m new to the group (this is my first post, so I hope I’m doing this right!). I’m trying to compare the Springfield Waypoint 2020 and the Bergara Premier Divide, both in 6.5 CM. Here in Canada, they’re priced similarly, with only about a $100 difference.

I’m looking for a rifle primarily for whitetail hunting, but I’d also like something suitable for range use. Unfortunately, no shops nearby have either rifle in stock, so I’ll have to order one online.

  • The Premier Divide has a 24" barrel, while the Waypoint comes with a 22" barrel.
  • The Waypoint offers a 0.75 MOA accuracy guarantee, compared to the 1 MOA guarantee from Bergara.

Any advice or input to help me choose between these two would be greatly appreciated!

You could probabaly do an Eeny Meeny Mine Mo and pick one and be happy with it. You can find reviewers who like Premier action better than a Tikka so I think that is one for Bergara. I also think that a whitetail rifle can afford a longer barrel as, at least down in the lower, your not hiking in the rifle mile after mile after mile so 24" is +100 fps over the Waypoint. I would think that 1 more in favor of the Bergara. Wash on the stock and probably the barrel. The MOA guarantee isn’t worth the paper its on. It looks like Sprinfield is still offering a free rimfire with a purchase of the Waypoint, so that is a big point to the 2020. I also think the Waypoint looks cooler.

Like I said, pick either one and you’ll be happy.

Ben,
Thanks for the reply. The rimfire promo would have sealed the deal on the Springfield, but unfortunately, we Canadians aren’t eligible :pensive:.

:(, can you bring a firearm accross the border (i.e., make the drive)?
