Anyone using this powder and if so does it work well or should I skip it? I can get this or H1000 and Im pretty sure H1000 will work well. But I use staball match in 308 and its been great. Would kikda like to stay with the ball powder if its a reliable/accurate option in the 7. I also can get N560 but ive read where others have suggested N555 however thats not available currently at my lgs.
I have. I will send a pic of my velocities. Testing Grand now and velocities are better. What bullet? I am testing 168 and 160 monolithics.
Im pretty sure i want to shoot the hornady eldx 175grn. I can get them relatively inexpensive.
Use these at your own risk. These are for my rifle
I did not do load any eldx. But I did chrono a few
Thats awesome thank you for sharing. Are you liking the powder? And how is the accuracy?
Grand gives me 120 fps more velocity for about same load charge. As for accuracy- I need to shoot better. I had some sub-moa groups and some
bigger than moa groups. I need to fix my rifle because I get flinchy due to bolt handle driving into my trigger finger knuckle.
Out of curiosity, which rifle is that? I’ve never had that happen with a rifle before until just recently with a fierce rival, and it is driving me bananas.
savage 110 ultralight. I bought a new bolt handle because the stock one was a hard bolt lift. I got one of the pineapple knobs which is the problem. Not nice on the knuckle.
I use Retumbo with 175 Eld x
I don’t have a chronograph yet, so I can’t speak to velocities (glad to see some of the other’s reports on that for now).
But, I can speak to accuracy. In general, I’ve had impressive results with the Staball HD powder for 7mm PRC. It has performed at least as good, if not slightly better than, Retumbo and H1000 in my guns.
My average group size is .70 with the Berger Classic Hunter (169 gr). The Hornady ELD-X (175 gr) is not as good, averaging about 1.0.
Just got some Berger Elite Hunter (195 gr) for this and will run that soon. But so far, I’m impressed with it. Plus, it was a good bit cheaper than the Retumbo and H1000.
(Guns I’m shooting for this: CVA Cascade XT and the Ruger Gen 2 Predator)
That’s very similar to the one on my Fierce which is giving me grief. Did you replace it with one made by savage, or aftermarket? Curious if Fierce"s is proprietary or not.
Aftermarket - I forgot where I got it.
Thanks james I ordered a keg. Now if my mark 5 will just show up I can start tinkering with loads. I also dont have a chronograph yet, but looking to rectify that soon hopefully.
And I can find Staball powders where as H1000 I have not seen on shelves here for years. They may have it but it is gone before I get to it.
