I am in the process of putting together a lightweight hunting rig with the Howa Mimi-action in 300 Blackout. I will hunt suppressed both here in SE Alaska and Central Texas. I hunt in a walk and stalk style and the mountains here in SE Alaska are yelling that I need something lighter than my 12lb AR to carry on the trails. What are your experiences and thoughts for a setup like this?
I know Boyd’s makes a wood stock. Probably not ideal for southeast Alaska given the humidity that affects the wood.
Stockys does inlets for their carbon fiber stocks in the Howa mini action that could be a good lightweight option.
Last option I know of is the MDT LSS that is quite modular and might give you similar modularity to the AR you currently use.
Thanks Jim, I appreciate your insight ! I do have one I’m leaning towards… Do any of y’all know anything about the Oregunsmithing Classic C Mini stock? These are carbon fiber stocks (18 oz) built custom to your rifle, length of pull, choice of color coating and contrasting webbing, Pachmayr decelerator pad, swivel studs, stainless steel pillars, steel crosspins, bedding and freefloating. The cost for the Mini C is 500, plus shipping.
Maybe the AG composites privateer, think Remington model 7 ergos, offer CF or fiberglass depending on budget, military discount, very optimizable. If the the sky is the limit, Manners.
FYI, AG makes stocks for the Springfield 20/20, Bergara, Alamo precision and many others
Thanks for the info! It is definitely appreciated
