Straight wall cartridge

Hey Jim I am planning on going on a deer hunt in Ohio next year where you are only allowed to hunt with straight wall cartridges. I am torn between the 350 legend, 400 legend, and the 360 buck hammer. Do you have any experience with these if so what would you recommend.

I like the 350 Legend. I don’t really see the need for the 400 Legend unless that caliber is required in your area. 350 Legend will absolutely crush a deer.

360 Buckhammer is awesome. It’s specifically designed for lever guns, so if that’s what you’re looking at, it’d be a good fit.

Thanks Jim any recommendations on a rife for 350 legend? I am honestly not a fan of the ruger American or any savage. The rifle has to have a threaded muzzle as well.

Tikka makes a 350 legend that would be great Tikka T3x Lite 350 Legend 20" 1:16" Bbl Rifle JRTXE313 For Sale - EuroOptic.com

Only issue is there’s not a threaded muzzle.

CVA Cascade is also a good choice.

My 350 Legend is the Winchester XPR. It’s decent but I think CVA or Tikka would be better options.

Tikka is offering a .350 Legend with a threaded barrel, just saw it on GB.

Not sure about the rules were you hunt, but I have been using an AR-15 pistol set up in 350 Legend for a couple of years now and it works great out to about 150 yards.
I use a holosun redot with a 3x magnifier.

It’s legal to hunt with an ar in Ohio but that’s not really my thing I would rather stick with a bolt action myself I guess I’m old school lol.

Beretta T3x Roughtech 350 Legend Rifle w/ Threaded Barrel

my mistake…googled beretta and this came up with a photo…but the rifle pictured is actually a tikka t3x roughtec with a threaded barrel. Beretta does make a similar sized hunting platform but it is a straight pull action.

We just had a rule change from straight wall to anything 35 cal and above with at least 500 ft lbs of energy. 35 Whalen is making a come back.
The 350 L works great no matter the platform.

Happy Hunting!

The CVA looks hard to beat for performance, options, and price.

Is this for Ohio? I’m going to Ohio dec 2025 and would love to use a 35 whelen

I am in Iowa
