I wonder If Jim might like to take the backfire challenge on the road? I’ve been enjoying watching the backfire challenge and that raised container with the side doors is pretty sweet! I thought It would be great to see some other backfire member ranges?
My local spot on Maui has steel at 300,404, 610 and 808 yards. Not super far but when it’s snowing on the mainland Maui is a pretty appealing place to shoot. Did I mention no tag no limit Axis deer all year round?
I’d love to come over there. Literally told my wife yesterday I’d like to take the boys on an axis hunt in Hawaii. I may have to hit up a few outfitters and see if I can make it happen.
When you have that info from the outfitters, I would love to know what you find out. A Hawaii vacation for the fam and a hunting trip for dad, win win.
I have hunted axis on Maui and Lanaii several times. I can tell you the meat is fantastic. One day I hope to visit Molokai and due the same. I hear the population of axis on Molokai is 2nd to none. You won’t shoot axis with antlers as large as in Texas but the venison is far better in Hawaii.
I’ve been lucky enough to take a few. For outfitter on Maui If you are looking for a trophy or a quicker hunt go to Arrow One ranch. They Have High and low fence options. The High fence is about 6 miles long so it’s a pretty big area and there are hundreds of big bucks in there. You will see 100 Axis in the first 30 minutes guaranteed. If you want more of a challenge and prioritize wide open spaces, great views and a harder hunt I would go with Maui Hunting Safari. I’ve seen some great trophies taken by them but it’s not a High Fence area so you never know.
