Tikka 300 WSM Load Development results

It took me long enough to get out to the range to do more testing with my Tikka 300 WSM. I’ve been busy with work, but took some time off last week for Thanksgiving.

Initially I got good results with Ramshot Hunter and the 180 gr. Barnes TTSX. I played around with the charge weight, getting close to maxing out (Barnes load data) and seeing almost 3100 fps, but the accuracy suffered a little. I went back down a little and loaded up 18 rounds. I messed up two cases :frowning:

I shot one fouling round and then 3-five shot groups. The average velocity was 2998.8 with a 14.7 SD. The group sizes were:

Group 1: 0.691”

Group 2: 0.860”

Group 3: 1.077

I am pretty happy with those results. Now I just need to load more!

Good job!

The guys from Barnes said on one of their podcasts that 180TTSX is one of their best bullets that they make in terms of accuracy.

Wow, I’m very impressed. Is the shooting setup a bipod and rear bag? Using a suppressor? Which exact model of tikka?

Could you post the load recipe?

It’s rare that I see a good shooting lightweight magnum, so I’m interested.

Thanks for the note. Since I’m in California, no suppressor for me. I was shooting a Tikka Roughtech sporting the 24” barrel with a brake and Backstop recoil pad from a cement bench with a front and rear bag (still need to get a bipod).

The load used Norma brass, with Remington 9 1/2 Large Rifle Magnum primers using 70.5 gr of Ramshot Hunter with the Barnes 180 gr TTSX. I’m going to load more with that recipe, so we’ll see if I can replicate the results.

Not as good as yours, but if you ever feel the need for speed, then try the 150TTSX over H4350 @ 3195fps.
