Anyone here have or heard any experiences threading a Tikka T3X lite/super lite barrel?? I’ve talked to a couple people and they say it can be done 1/2x28… I’m more than ok with having to run a 5/8x24 thread adapter if it comes down to it. Planning on putting in for my first suppressor and now realizing that I need to transition all of my guns to threaded muzzles lol. (Another note, any suppressor recommendations you all have I would love to hear! Trying to keep it at ~$1000 all in after the tax stamp so my wife doesn’t kill me haha. So about $800 budget and would love to hear opinions and recommendations)
Banish 30, but it would be under $1000. But its close.
I have a T3x super lite in 6.5 creedMoor that I had threaded to 1/2-28. Shoots real well. Also, recently got the same thing in 300 wsm and the gun shop said it would be okay at 1/2-28. Haven’t shot it yet. I’m a little nervous tbh. Seems thin. From what I have read online, it should be okay though. I asked them about thread adapters and they recommended against it as it can affect the concentricity. Not sure that makes sense though since I always check whenever throwing a can onto a new rifle. If it seems to line up, I shoot it. I don’t see a thread adapter causing an issue as long as it’s checked before firing.
That’s really good to hear that you’ve had it threaded and it worked out. Mines a 6.5 creed as well so now it’s time to start looking around for Smiths that can do it for me!
Shot the 300 wsm today with direct thread suppression on the 1/2”-28 threads and it did fine. Was just zeroing it in and doing some plinking so only put 20 rounds of 165 gr hornady factory ammo through it. Garmin said it was goin about 3020-3040 fps which seems good for a 20” barrel, lol. Now it’s time to do some load development.
That’s great man! Glad there’s enough meat on the barrel for it to still work. That’s what I need next is a Garmin lol. Reloading is a bit of a mystery without one I’m finding out. So many things I want and not enough money haha!
I’ve got a Tikka t3X Superlite chambered in 7mm RM that I threaded to 1/2x28. It works great with my Silencerco Omega 36M suppressor.
I have 2 different suppressors first one is the Multical – GSL Technology, Inc. and it does great on everything from 22LR up to 300 Win Mag, the second one is the SilencerCo Harvester Evo: The next generation hunting suppressor. I have only run the Evo on a 308 because I didn’t get the adapters yet. It does good as well and is only about $900 all in with the direct attachment (about $100 for the QD attachment)
My t3x lie .308 came with a break and it’s threaded at 5/8x24… are the barrels thinner on other models?
I have a Roughtech in 300 WSM. It too came threaded with 5/8x24, but if I understand correctly, the Roughtech and Veil models have a different barrel contour.
Ah, ok. Yeah mine is an alpine veil
Yes, the “normal” T3x Lite has a thinner contour, so you have to do 1/2x28 usually. I also have a different model (the CTR) which is threaded 5/8x24 already, and I love it, but the heavier contour does add a little bit of weight. It’s not bad though. I think it’s like ~7.5 lbs. instead of 6.5 lbs. naked, like the T3x Lite.
Threading to 1/2x28 doesn’t leave much material on the barrel and makes for a weak point with a suppressor attached. It would be stronger threaded to 9/16x24 and then add a thread adapter. Saying that folks do thread tikka barrels to 1/2x28.
