Anyone heard any rumors, rumblings, info on if Tikka is planning on updating their basic T3X Lite black synthetic stock? Seems it is about time for them to refresh it in some way???
Maybe don’t spread this publicly but they’ve asked for my thoughts on the next gen Tikka stock, but they move slowly so I doubt we’d see it in the next year.
Went to the range yesterday with a brand new Tikka T3x Hunter (wood stock) 30/06 I’m setting up for my brother in law. Once I got it on target my very first 3 shot group was .70 @ 100 loaded with a relatively mild load of H4350 and some old 150 grain Ballistic tips I’d assembled to set it up. Not too surprising for a Tikka, but still very impressive.
Even more impressive is the bruise on the bridge of my nose from getting whacked by the first shot. Must have had a dozen people ask me about it today. You might think I wasn’t paying enough attention but the other gun on the bench, which I’d just shot, was a Dakota 300 Weatherby - with no muzzle break or suppressor (illegal in Canada) After my eyes stopped watering I played around a bit back and forth with the two guns. There is no doubt that the felt recoil from the Tikka with the factory stock is considerably more severe. I’m genuinely afraid to let my inexperienced brother in law shoot it. Worse yet I’m the guy who recommended the Tikka.
Now I guess I need to convince him he needs a backfire chassis as well. Might make an interesting comparison. So, Mr. Harmer, sir, how long until you have one to ship to Canada?
That is exciting. Without revealing too much or getting you in trouble. Just curious, how excited were you when you saw what potentially the next T3x Lite stock will/could look like/be?
Ha ha ha. Do not feel too bad. This happened to me a while back. I was shooting my brothers Rem 700 in .308 with his new fancy scope for the first time. I was in a really weird prone position angle where the rifle scope was at a negative angle into my shoulder and sure enough. Pulled the trigger and immediately feel blood running into my eye ha ha ha. It was funny and quite emberassing as well. We still laugh about it ![]()
I have been shooting heavy recoiling rifles regularly for many years and have never been scoped before (I would have got a scope to the eyebrow/forehead but I was wearing safety glasses which transferred the impact to the bridge of my nose). In retrospect I guess I just wasn’t expecting that much recoil from a 30/06 and had no problem after that - but I have no doubt the felt recoil exceeded my, somewhat heavier, 300Wby. Next stop gunsmith, gotta have a brake installed before I give it to my brother in law. Better yet, before I do the load development!
