Today's (1/23/25) Mancast

Good discussions.

  1. For Garrett’s perfect rifle build. I like the idea of ditching the Bergara and going with aero or zermat itself. If you’re really set on the 6.5 PRC then you could have a couple of quick change barrels one long, one short. Longer one for elk hunting where you want some more velocity and range, shorter one for other things. Also, if you really want to go to a 7mm bullet for elk, you could do the ballistic twin of the 280 ackley, the 7 RSAUM. There are at least two barrel makers that I’m aware of that will make you one that would fit that action.

2 In terms of the 6.8 Western. Did Browning / Winchester try to get other industry on board with them before releasing that thing, and they were blacklisted? Or, did they just feel like their name / prestige would carry this chambering through one of the worst time to try to bring out a new cartridge? Inquiring minds want to know.

One thing that is different between Bergara Barreled actions and the AERO Solus is the picatinny rail machined into the action.

This could be viewed as a positive or a negative depending on your perspective.

It seems that current trends are leaning to more shooters picking picatinny rail mounts for their rifles than the old school direct attach rings.

Both styles have trade offs.

I would really like to hear more about the Solus as I am a huge fan of AERO Precision.

Another point to consider is that the 6.5 PRC is very close to .270 Winchester which has taken everything from Moose to Varmints … so good choice on the power of the cartridge.

I hope to hear more about your build once you complete it.
