Just watched today’s video where you were having trouble with your load development, with too slow velocities.
So just plugged a 175 bullet using Hornady max for H1000 into both GRT and Quickload. For a 20 in barrel GRT says you should see 2550, Quickload says 2450.
Don’t know where Hornady gets 2900 from (24 inch barrel).
Powder they used during initial load development but can’t get it now because of Ukraine and Iran related matters.
For RL26, yes.
But Hornady load data says that at max. H1000 gives 2900 fps from 24 inch barrel. For a 20, that should equate to 2750. GRT, QL. and Jim’s experience say nowhere near that.
I am getting mid 2800 out of a 22", but I am over book (but still under max pressure).
I had the same exact problems with the Berger 175 elite Hunter. Unfortunately, I bought three boxes, wanting to use it on my elk Hunt and it was only running at about 2650 out of my 20 inch 7 PRC. That was an expensive mistake. The Nosler Accu bond long range though is shooting 2868 and consistent 1/2 moa groups, so I’ll be running that.
That’s good info. I’m losing faith in Hornady reloading data. They have EXTREMELY ANEMIC loads for the 7 SAUM too. Now this one where the velocities are a couple hundred feet off from what the book says (even taking barrel length into account)…. It’s costing me too much money to use the Hornady manual.

@backfire I emailed Berger and told them how slow their factory elite hunter was running. They agreed something was off, and here is their reply. Needless to say, excellent customer service.
That’s interesting. Glad to see they’re helping you out. For some reason I was thinking you were talking about a hand load with that bullet not Factory ammo.
Last year sometime I picked up a box of their Elite hunter in 6.5 PRC 140 grain. The box says 3,000 ft per second out of a 26-in barrel. I was using a 22-in barrel and only getting 2750, which is even slower than that what they quote with the 6.5 Creedmoor load for that bullet. But boy was it an accurate load. In fact it’s the most accurate 6.5 load I’ve ever shot
Oh ya, factory load. The 140 he is a great bullet. It’s pretty slow for me too out of my 6.5 PRC, but I killed three Whitetail with it last year.
