Travel Insurance - Elk Hunt

I’m in the process of booking a Idaho elk hunt for next September. The outfitter suggested that I get trip insurance to cover any unexpected issues that would shut down or alter the hunt (mainly wildfires). Any recommended providers or real world experience with using a travel insurance provider? Thanks!

Hm. Sorry, I guess I always just live on the wild side. I’ve never purchased traveler’s insurance.

Over the long run insurance costs more than what you will get out of it. It’s a business they know the odds and use that to work against you in essence. My parents just booked a trip and insurance for them is much higher because of their age over 65. Odds of them not going because of a family member who is sick or passed away and such are higher.

However, an unexpected medical issue 3 days before an Alaska sheep hunt cost me $18000.00 for the lost hunt. Now the about $100/$1000 is what I always buy.
Remember it’s only money.

Last year I came within a few days of losing out on my hunt (and all my non-refundables) due to wildfires in the area. Who have you had the best luck with? Also, do they cover the cost of licenses and tags if the trip gets cancelled?

I pay 10% of the hunt cost for cancel for any reason insurance. Message me if you want my brokers info.

A few years back I had an Idaho Bull Elk tag for the Weiser area. RECON’d it a few times in the summer. Had them patterned really well. Come tag time, 1/3 of the unit was on fire. Another third closed due to fire. The area I could hunt had over 80k of sheep with Great Pyrenees dogs that try to eat you and your side by side. The Basque Herders carry ARs, and just smile and laugh as the dogs harass you. Spent a lot of money on that hiking and camping trip. No insurance. Spoiled my taste for Idaho.
