I’m looking for a good tripod…I’m semi-new to the long range hunting and shooting game, so I’m a little overwhelmed with what I’m looking at.
Any suggestions on a good tripod that strikes a nice balance between cost and quality? My next rifle will have an arca rail on it but the other is just a plain old sling stud.
I use the viortex ridge view carbon it is a taller tripod I like it for stretching my legs and standing cones with arcs Swiss attachment. I bought a Revic fh1 fluid head which I really like but not the cheapest. It’s like 4.5 lbs with fluid head. You can get a big death grip attachment for your rifle without out the arcs Swiss rail.
I have a SunwayFoto and a Feisol and both are excellent. I think the biggest decision is how many leg sections you want. Two is convenient for faster setup, but three is much better for compactness when hunting or traveling.
Rev,
Whatever you choose, if you have 3 sections or 4 sections…and you do not need to use all of that height, I recommend extending from the top leg section first, then second section. The reasoning for this is the last section(s) will give added rigidity to the tripod IF you are not utilizing the full height of the tripod.
Additionally, make sure whatever you DO choose, has a solid weight hook on the bottom, so you can hang a bag or other item that can add weight and thus more stability, to the tripod!
I just bought a Vortex High Country II and can’t wait to get out and use it both hunting and in PRS matches. Seems like a really nice tripod for the money
