I hope everyone had a great 4th of July. I have a question about trim to length. I am working at the moment with some Norma 308 Win brass. I have some that were once fired and I am starting with some that are new. I had three pieces that exceeded the max case length of 2.015". I proceeded to trim these going for 2.005", the trim to length. I overshot on one, taking it down to 2.002.
I decided to measure the new brass for comparison and found that several of the pieces were below the case trim length. One came in at 1.999". Jim,
I recall in the Reloading 101 video you said if you overshoot and trim too much the case is trash, but these are brand new. I am wondering if these are good to shoot?

If you trim tooo much, the case is indeed trash. In this case you’re easily within spec. 3 thou short is nothing. No prob.

you could try running them through the resizing die. That should give you some length. Chamfering and deburring may give you some extra length as well.

Thanks, Jim. How about the new piece that was 1.999" or 6 thou short?

Very normal to see that. 6 thou is tiny.
Just know that you can’t ever go LONG on the brass. But a tiny bit short like these numbers is normal.
