Hello guys I’m in the market for a new 7 prc I’m currently looking at a seekins and a fierce carbon rough What do you guys and Jim recommend .?
I own a bergara but it had issues and won’t group great . I already sent it back and it shoots ok now but I just don’t really like it. My buddy has the carbon wilderness and it horribly as well
I have a number of older Seekins models, and they run perfectly, shoot wonderfully. I have one of the new M3 models and it’s had to go back for warranty work. Turns out I purchased one of the very first ones ever produced and they have since made some design changes. They’ve updated my rifle to meet the newer standards.I have not received it back yet. Their CS has been a wonderful experience to deal with. I have a few older Fierce rifles also.
To me it’s kind of model specific. The one thing I absolutely adore about Fierce is that they have a action that is a clone of a Sako, and I’m much prefer that over the standard r700 action. However, that only comes in their Top Line models and you’re looking at probably $3,000 or more for those models.
In the current Seekins lineup, their cheapest model, the ph3 appeals to me the most. Going up to an element basically gets you a carbon fiber Barrel. While carbon fiber Barrel certainly work in terms of accuracy, I don’t know that they’re worth the significant price increase, ($1000), and where I live, they tend to stay hot for longer than a regular steel barrel which is what the ph3 has.
No experience with either companies chassis style rifles if that’s what you’re interested in.
In my experiences, accuracy between the brands is equivalent. It’s more of an issue of feature sets and the cost of those.
Edit
Fierce also has both steel as well as carbon fiber barrels. The one steel barrel I’ve seen on a fierce was rather thin and had only 1/2 threading at the muzzle.
I’m somewhat of a fierce fanboy, so take this with a grain of salt if you want to, but I think they are incredibly hard to beat, for the price. The stocks are far superior to the seekins, and all 5 of mine shoot lights out. I have had to use their CS on 2 occasions, and both times they were awesome, and had my gun back within 2 & 3 weeks. I have 3 carbon barrels, and 2 steel barrels. As Carter stated, the older twisted models had very thin steel barrels, that were threaded 1/2x28, the new ones however look a lot like the seekins barrels. thicker steel with heavy fluting and 5/8 threads. 2nd down on the back wall is a newer twisted rogue, and below that is an older twisted rival, so you can see the difference in the new and old steel barrels. Big weight difference in the seekins and fierce too; and I think you have to take into account the ergonomics of each stock as you may prefer one more over the other, and a similar style stock to the seekins, in a fierce, will put you into a much more expensive rifle. The Rogues on the other hand, are an incredible value IMO.
I’m now firmly in the position that FIERCE rifles should never be purchased. Sometimes they make a good one but they let out WAY too many lemons. My latest experience with the Fierce Mini Rogue was absurd. It’s literally dead last for accuracy in the database.
Seekins makes good stuff but do you have an older rifle you could rebarrel instead? Custom is what’s getting us the best results.
A lot of online people say that Fierce has gone the way of Christensen. And unfortunately I’ve started to read some people say the same about Seekins. It seems that a rifle company becoming popular and having to turn out more product often leads to problems. Of course you never know 100% what you read online is true
I wonder if it’s a problem with leadership? Just listened to a short interview with the ceo of Walther and you can tell he’s passionate about firearms and the quality of the product.
Also, its interesting to juxtapose these companies that struggle with quality compared to for example aero precision. Aero precision seems to have a different problem, but their quality seems solid. Their problem is more how to scale a business in a fluctuating market.
I think the only constant in the firearms industry is when a democrat gets elected, business booms.
With seekins quality going down wouldn’t be a surprising thing to happen, they did just win multiple government contracts that are gonna take their priorities away from the retail market to fulfill their government side of orders
@jferreira414 how does your thin twisted preform compare to you new thick twisted barrel ? My local gun shop has a thin twisted rival on sale for 1500 bucks.
I wouldnt hesitate to buy it at that price. Of 5 fierce rifles that one shoots as good as any, and better than some. The only thing I don’t love is that it’s threaded 1/2x28, so needs a different a adapter for suppressor
Interesting the accuracy data base has no Weatherby’s and yet they are a large volume dealer, but yet rarely hear any bad press, on customer service, quality, or accuracy… every Weatherby I’ve owned has been sub, MOA. And I’d say worth considering.. it would be nice to see some show up on the “BackFire Channel”
