UPS's "New Rules"?

Over the past 5 years I have purchased numerous suppressors from Capitol Armory. Can’t say enough good things about my interactions with the company, their responses to questions and issues has been super fast. 100% satisfied.

So last week I got my notification that my latest suppressor was being shipped. I signed on to UPS my choice to have the package either held at the regional facility which about a 20 min drive from home, or have it delivered to one of the UPS stores even closer. It didn’t give me those options.

I contacted CA to tell them to allow one or the other. CA responded back that they had zero control, it’s a new UPS policy on firearms.

As I feared, the UPS truck showed up at 11:00 a.m. today when I’m of course at work. I don’t work from home, ever. Their rules about always showing up in the middle of the day for packages that need a signature but showing up at all hours of the evening and night for packages that don’t need signatures makes no sense to me.

I contacted UPS to see if we could do something different. I spoke to two very nice people. They both told me that they would have the delivery driver turn around and come back to my house later in the day when I’m home. I even gave them the option of meeting the UPS driver somewhere and they said that might work even better. And here we are of course at 9:00 at night and the truck never came back and the driver never called me to arrange for anything.

Tomorrow will be even worse as the office I work out of is over an hour away from the house. Unless the driver decides to come back super late in the afternoon, but again they never do that for a package that needs a signature. Wednesday isn’t really any better I don’t have any days planned off of work for months.

If it doesn’t get delivered on Wednesday it goes back to the company.

I’m a bit upset at CA. This is not my first rodeo with suppressors. If the rules have changed they should have notified me. In fact I just went back and looked at the email I got from them last week and just like every other email I’ve gotten over the years it says I should contact UPS to have it shipped to their UPS Store if I’m not going to be home. If that’s no longer an option, they should have said something completely different.

More pissed off at UPS for telling me one thing and doing something completely different, as well as yet again the asinine rule of showing up in the middle of the day to a residence for a package needing a signature.

Looks like I’ll be going back to silencer shop, as all of the local suppressor dealers work through them. I’ve never tried silencer Central, but they have the same general workflow as capitol Armory.

Same thing happened to me with Silencer Central. Had to take a day off work to keep it from being sent back.

That sucks… but ran into that rule couple years back that when shipping a firearm etc.. I could no longer deliver it to a ups store, everything had to go to the main facility… I buy a gun use it a couple of years then decide if I want to keep it, if not Gunbroker it goes… so now when I ship I usually only use USPS, with a prepaid label from pirateship.com so that I can drop it off without any questions… on occasion I do the same for UPS but make sure there’s some kind of Amazon label on it and makes it a easy no questions ask at the UPS Store.

Can’t you just gave it delivered to your office? That seems to work for me

Yeah, I typically have things delivered to my office especially when I’m ordering rifle scopes from Europtic.

But according to CA, the suppressor can only be shipped to the address listed on your 4473. And furthermore, if someone should accidentally open it at the office, or if the Box breaks open and someone sees what it is, then at a minimum I’m fired, and more than likely going to jail.

I recently had to ship a rifle back to Seekins for some warranty work. They sent me a pre-printed UPS label and told me to put the gun in a gun case in a very nondescript box and drop it off at the UPS store locally. So I did it, no questions were asked and it worked perfectly

Okay, credit where credit is due. UPS actually showed up today at 5:00 p.m.. never ever had that happen in my entire life.

Now at the end of the week, early next week I get to see how this happens again as I’ve got a rifle coming back from a manufacturer.

I am sorry about your bad experience with UPS. But, I am surprised that you weren’t able to sign online. I, myself, had ordered a knife that was coming from Canada through UPS as well. I have a basic UPS Account. First, a week ago I received a text/tariff bill to pay to have my package delivered. Then on Monday I received another text saying it will be delivered on Tue with a signature requirement! Yesterday I received a delivery window text with the signature requirement. I was able to log into my account, sign online and leave an instruction for the driver where on the front door patio to leave the package. I received a delivery confirmation late in the day, 4-6 PM , while I was at work that it had been delivered. I was still nervous till I got home and pulled into my driveway and saw the package. They came through. I don’t know as a guest you be able to do that or not. But open a no cost basic acct with them for future deliveries you don’t run into this issue again. My problem is that there’s no UPS office near me. Closest one is about an hour and half away. And I have a package with a UPS Q-code on it that’s only readable at a UPS center. Drivers are not able to scan it, now go figure! GL

Yeah, I’ve had a UPS account for quite some time. The purchase prior to this most recent one was done in June of last year and when that was shipped I had all of the options that you listed including signing for it and finding it sitting on my front porch when I would get home from work. But I tended to choose the option of pick up at a local store. But that is all changed. There’s no options other than deliver on another day available now for not just suppressors from Capital armory, but any firearm. I’ve got a rifle that should be here today coming back from the factory that made it for warranty work. The only option I’ve got on the website is deliver on another day. They do give me some delivery time windows but they’re quite Limited.

I have seen on other forums that this is all in response to trying to reduce the number of firearms that are stolen from ups.

Interesting, but I believe it. I had a set of range finder binoculars stolen at a FedEx ground a couple of years back. According to the manager, it was caught on video. He recommended I recover through my CC company. I still wasn’t happy about it.
