Does anyone have any experience with the Weatherby 307 Alpine CT? They look like a great value… Debating on getting one of these or a Seekin’s pH3. The only hesitation I have on the Seekins is that they look like they are fairly heavy, which may be great if I decide to go for a magnum caliber, the stock also is not as nice.
Jim - also curious why you are no longer carrying or promoting the Athlon scopes? Did you have a bad experience or do you feel the element scopes are better? The element scopes just looked pretty heavy to me. Also very intrigued by the Nightforce nx8 2.5-20. That’s a great magnification range for hunting. Thanks for you insights
If you are interested in a Seekins, and are concerned about weight, you might be able to shop around and find an older model element, not M3. At the time they were the lighter weight rifle from that company. You would give up on Quick Change barrels, but a lot of people don’t really care for that anyway and you could save yourself several hundred dollars as most places that still have the older elements are discounting them significantly.
I don’t think you can go wrong with NightForce scopes and I have a few. I also have a couple of Athlon scopes which function very well. Is there a difference? Functionally, not much. For hunting, I don’t think you will have an issue either way.
I don’t know anything about the guns you asked about, so I will learn something from others reply’s.
Niteforces are considered bomb-proof by many. Very resistant to damage or zero shift if dropped, etc.
Ive got a few and they certainly work. I don’t particularly care for most of their reticle options for hunting. Also, their FFP reticles are difficult to pick up at low mag ranges.
We are still carrying athlon but got a batch of element in. I really like the element. Glass quality and turret accuracy is EXTREMELY impressive for the price.
I had a Seekins element hunter on order for 3 months and gave up and bought the Weatherby 307 alpine ct in 6.5 prc. I’m getting 5/8” groups w/it using the Hornady 143 precision hunter… I don’t hate it… but don’t love it either, you can’t do ant adjusting for length of pull, You can’t buy a Backfire recoil pad either…. I’m 6’0 and had to buy the 3/8” off set Talley rings just to try and get the scope moved forward enough so I can have some eye relief. I’d say it’s a gun ment for shorter people as they shaved it down where ever they could to save wieght(or costs)
