Weatherby Mark V opinions?

Have looked through here quite a bit but can’t seem to find too much info on it here. What’s everyone’s opinion on a pretty iconic brand and are they are a good choice for a backcountry rifle?

I have never owned one, but they do look like great rifles, and they have an outstanding reputation. There are some lightweight backcountry-specific models in their lineup. They also have a custom shop you can order from on their website if you want to mix-and-match features or get a custom engraving.

I will be following this thread too, if anyone can share about their experience with one.

I have a couple of their shotguns. Truely beautiful weapons. I have steered clear of their rifle offerings because i didnt want to get locked into their ammo, so id say stick with a common caliber and they are fine.

Overall I think they make very nice rifles. They definitely have one idea about what a rifle should be, and it doesn’t really jive with me, though.

Weatherby is usually longer barrels, very antiquated stock lines, actions ideal for their own proprietary cartridges but not for the newer PRC cartridges, and crazy overbore cartridge designs with insanely priced Weatherby ammo.

Those are what I don’t like, but I do like that they are generally very accurate, they have consistent quality control, and their guns are usually lightweight.

I’ve owned one of the past, and have shot a couple of others that belonged to friends.

They’ve all had lightweight thin barrels. They do good for a couple of shots but number three and up start spreading out significantly. Of course that may be perfectly adequate for many hunting rifles.

They do have some heavier barreled models, but I’ve never seen or shot one of those.

Also those thin lightweight barrels come only with 1/2 inch threads.
