How y’all been? What have I missed?
Work has been so crazy that the last shot I fired was on a mule deer in CO in November and I’m catching up on the Backfire podcast from February.

Another Colorado mule deer. I drew first rifle this year so I might pick up an OTC bear tag to go with it.
Which unit(s) are you hunting? With very little summer rainfall we are having a hard time finding bear food in units 8 and 191. I haven’t found a chokecherry yet. Kids and I found a couple berries on another species of plant while scouting yesterday (still have to identify what plant it is, but it wasn’t enough berries for a bear to waste time on). If you kill a deer, that gut pile could be a bear magnet. We stopped in at the Fort Collins CPW office and got confirmation that if you leave the gut pile where the deer died, it is NOT considered hunting over bait. If you move the gut pile (or the dead deer and then gut it) it is considered hunting over bait. Good luck!
I’m SW of you in Unit 15. It’s probably in the same condition as your area. Unfortunately I’m in Texas so scooting isn’t really an option.
Going back to the kill site the next day could be a game changer especially if the game warden is good with it.
