What do you think? Weatherby 307 action and rifles

I think these rifles look pretty cool. Especially the XP. Cerakote, r700 blueprint, threaded muzzle, sub MOA guarantee, triggertech trigger, modern stock with adjustable comb. For $1200 and 7.5lbs, I think if this had been out I would have been tempted to choose it over the HMR I currently have to save the 2lbs. I think it’s pretty close to a do it all rifle!

Let me know what you all think!

I am actually impressed by the value. It will be interesting to see the acceptance.

Yes it is a very strong offering. I agree with you–I would choose the Range XP over an HMR that is heavier. However, as much as I like this on paper so far (would like to try one out sometime too), I think there should be ONE more model included in this family of offerings. Like a standard synthetic stock with classic lines, a no frills option (e.g., without barrel fluting, etc.) that comes in under $1,000. I’d hope that it keeps its threading at this price, but yeah–that’s what I wished this lineup included. As it stands, there are still 700 clones cheaper than this that I might choose first.

I will also add that this Range XP model looks remarkably similar feature-wise to the new B-14 Squared Crest from Bergara, but the Bergara is going to be more expensive albeit a bit lighter too. I’d probably pick the Weatherby if I was comparing those two.

Actually I thought about this some more, and the Crest is really another step up since it is a carbon stock, etc. So the HMR remains the better comparison at a similar price point. But these rifles both support AICS magazines in a similar platform and feature the more vertical angle grip, both with fluted bolts and barrels, etc. It’s like the modern style or whatever.

Another one to compare the new Weatherby Range XP against is the Tikka CTR, which is also about 7.5 lbs, semi-heavy contour barrel, 20" long, threaded 5/8x24, etc. And very similar price point to the Weatherby also. Honestly, I think Weatherby has the right idea though going with more open platform, standard AICS magazines, etc., and that would lead me to pick it over the Tikka (if I didn’t already have the Tikka).

Looks like a compelling offering. It’ll be tough to beat the Bergara B14 Squared Crest—I agree with Alex on that. But looks cool.
