I already have a combination of each. But a week ago visiting my gundealer to pick up my Stag AR15 and the conversation turned to optics for ARs. He recommended the Sig brands of LPVOs. the other question I asked was about high end scopes LPVOs ($1000+) and his explanation was the clarity and quality of glass. Now, going back to my question if you intend to stay under $1000, which would you prefer for your AR or any other rifles?
Currently I have 2x 1-8 Arken, 1x 1-6 PA, 1x 1-8 Vortex and 1-10 Sig MSR TANGO.
Let me know your thoughts.
I think this is going to be mostly personal preference. Between the ones you have right now which do you like best and why? I am familiar with both the Primary Arms and Vortex ones you mention there, and I personally prefer the Vortex, while my brother prefers his PA. Based on several reviews that I have seen, there appears to be something of a consensus that the “best value” is Primary Arms 1-6 (it is a cheaper MSRP for similar features to the Vortex Strike Eagle for example). Doesn’t necessarily mean that is the best quality option per se, but for the price a lot of folks seem to suggest PA is a better buy. Of course, that is WAY under $1,000, more like ~300. So, there could be some that are between 500-1000 that are much better. I haven’t used any LPVOs in that price range myself.
Only LPVO I have is the vortex Strike Eagle II 1-8 FFP. Have zero to complain about it. It is rock solid.
I must admit, I have not seen much difference between the Vortex and the PA that I have shot. I have not shot with my Sig or the Arkens. I do like PA b/c of the affordability for sure.
I had already purchased a Sig Sauer 1-10 MSR Tango ~$600 but have not installed it on my AR-10 or my Noreen BN36X3. Beside the LPVO Vortex, I have quite few more Vortex scopes and I have been very happy with their quality and their glass at their price point. Sounds like if you are happy with your sub $1,000 LPVO scope, then why bother throwing away money on $1,000 to $2,000 range LPVO scopes. I am sure they have certain qualities that the less expensive scopes don’t. But till I reach that crossing for now I stay within my budget for most part. Thanks.
