Scope for 22 CM. Hearing rumbling Nightforce is releasing a new line at shot show. I think the new Rokscope may be at the Western Hunt Expo too, but is more realistic for fall/winter release.
New Suppressor for the 22 CM. Looking hard at Airlock right now. They are supposed to be releasing a 30 cal late spring, but hearing really good things.
Exo K4X. Really intrigued by their new bag that’s 1.5-2 lbs lighter. Not sure if they will have it at Hunt Expo, but I hope so.
Aero precision solas light weight action, proof research 7prc carbon fiber barrel… but as slow as Areo is about shipping it might be a 2027 addition:confounded_face:
Also hoping 2026 is the year of a 180+ mule deer! As I’ve sign up with Tate’s processed based hunter service, with plans of putting in for Idaho-Wyoming-Colorado-New Mexico
planning to trade in some rifles, shotguns & handguns for store credit… among other things, I want to get a 338. I already got the scope for it (on sale ︎), so gives me a little extra push to stop procrastinating & buy the rifle.
also looking to get a new single stage press - eyeing the RCBS Rebel.
might put a deposit on a plains game hunt in Namibia for 2027 hunt. I really want to do it, but it would be a significant cost for me (and my wife couldn’t care less…she actually does need a new car, sooo…). TBD.
Improvement isn’t the word I would use. It’s an alternative option priced a bit cheaper than the NX8. I’ll have to go double check but I think it replaced the NXS line?
I’m really irritated right now with Nightforce because they are nailing so many things that are great in a scope but just laying an absolute egg with their reticle choices for hunters. My fault for hoping it would be different than what it is. I want to provide some context though of why I’m frustrated with their reticles for hunting:
The scopes are basically unusable at lower magnification. If I was only guaranteed a longer shot, it would be fine, but you never know what the hunting situation will require and 98% of the time, I’ve got my scope at the lowest magnification for close shots.I think these would be great for competition and bench rest positions, but how could you have ANY degree of confidence pulling a trigger on an animal using their lower magnification?
This is why I like the Maven SHR-Mil retixle (2.5x)
I’m going to sell off most of what I have and “retool”. I haven’t decided if I’m giving up on .45acp and switching to 9mm - but maybe. If I do, it will probably be a Bull Armory ultralight pro (eventually 2)
I’m selling the 1895 Cowboy (after I get the front sight updated for the Skinner peep that’s on it) and getting one of the new 1895 SBLs
I’ve got a Winchester 1892 .44mag that’s going, a Walther PPK/s .380, a Custom Fantom .40 double-stack 1911 (2011) that’s going, a few 1911s
I’m selling 3 shotguns and getting a Beretta A300 Ultima Patrol
I’ll probably sell off the 2 AR-10s and a couple of AR-15s
Might get a suppressor for the custom hunting rifle - probably would be able to until next year.
The goal is to end up with 1 defense Shotgun, 1 hunting shotgun, 1 Hunting Rifle, 2 AR-15s, 2 pistols (9mm or 45 … we’ll see), and parts to fix them. And I’m totally undecided about whether I’m keeping the Styer Scout .308. Might not get it all done this year.
I really like my Leupold firedot for deer hunting early in the morning right at legal shooting time and still a little overcast. I’ve settled on having one on all of my hunting rifles.
Hey Jim, Are you starting to use nightforce scopes regularly? Hadn’t seen you use them before? How do you like them compared to the Leupold Mark v 3.6-18?
Late to the party, but it’s been fun reading everyone’s wishlists for the year. I’m finally going to invest in a hot tent for back country trips. Roughing it in a one man backpacking tent through single digit temps for several nights in a row last fall on a mule deer hunt was enough to finally convince me.
Just a heads up for anyone that may be interested. The Rokslide scope with the THLR reticle is going on sale tomorrow at 9 PST. I had a chance to check it out at the Hunt Expo and think it’s going to be an industry changer for Hunters. First order is going to be a limited number, $100 deposit, and will be a little over 6 months for delivery. Price is $999.
I liked it enough that I will be replacing my Maven RS1.2 with one assuming I can get my order through.
