What should I rechamber an old 30-06 into

I have an old Remington model 700 ADL that I bought used around 1995. Not sure how old it was when I bought it. I feel like it has a pretty nice action for what it is, but I haven’t shot it in 5+ years. I have another 30-06 that we use at times, so this one will likely not get touched. Someone will say a 280AI, but I already have one. What are some other options that don’t require the bolt face to be modified?

I was thinking about a 25-06, but would love some other ideas. Nothing really off the table.

270 Win

280 REM

35 Whalen if you want something different.

7 Backcountry ! (kidding)

35 Whelen as mentioned above, or perhaps 9.3X62

Also 6.5-284

270 with a modern fast twist barrel so you can stabilize heavier bullets

I forgot about the 35 Whelen. I like different calibers. Strikes up good conversations.

22 creedmoor would be high on my list. 35 whelen, and 6 creed would also be on my list.

The 22 and 6 creedmore have the correct bolt face size, but they are short action rifles. What needs to be done to use a long action donor?

Oooh. Shoot. Forgot it was a long action. 25-06 has to get the nod then.

Good 35W vs 9.3 discussion

280 AI same bolt no mods

I’d go with ben sugestion. 270 with 1 in 9 twist

If you’re going to do 270 in a fast twist, I’d go down to 1 in 8 or even 7.5. Might as well get the twist to stabalize the real heavies. It will still do just fine on the classic 130 grain projectiles.

Hmm do we think there’s a chance of a 30-06 PRC coming down the pike?

Maybe the 30-06 Eastern? (Bad joke)

Something to fill that area between 308 and 300 PRC but still have a 30 cal bullet?
