What was the worst rifle you ever bought, and why?

Collecting your responses for a video. Curious to see what brands have been most problematic for people.

Mossberg Patriot (surprise) package with scope in 308 for a nephew. Scope wouldn’t hold zero and 2 1/2” groups with doing everything that I could. Even had a gunsmith “blueprint” the action and barrel.
Savage Axis without the accutrigger, also in 308. Also a package for another nephew. 2” was the best I could get.
Both were “minute of pig” but I ended up spending more money trying to get the guns to shoot than just getting something “better.” Both boys picked out what they wanted and we would hunt together (my sister and their dad got divorced).

Springfield M1A

Honestly, I don’t know what people like about these. Originally, I was attracted to the aesthetic and the history, etc., but my experience was just… ick. Cycling was problematic, I think it had something to do with the magazine. Not to mention the safety didn’t work when I got it, had to get that RMA first. Then when I got it back, I learned I had the cycling problems, sent it in again, came back just the same. The magazine was an absolute BITCH to remove and insert. Every. Single. Time. Like, how did our troops actually rely on this piece of junk? Or has Springfield just let the quality slip over the years? I dunno. People generally have nothing but praise for Springfield, but this thing was just garbage. And it’s not like this is a cheap rifle, either. I think I spent like $1800 acquiring it?! I ended up trading it away. Definitely lost money on that deal, but good riddance.

Oh and they are heavy. Like almost 10 pounds (without an optic).

Exact same experience with that rifle myself. Had to send it to the shop many times to get it to work.

My first ever rifle was a Mini-14. That rifle had the interesting ability to spontaneously disassemble itself every time you shot a round through it. The magazine would first fall and hit the ground, then the trigger assembly would fall and hit the ground, then the barreled action would separate from the stock. Put it all back together, one more shot and then do it all over again

Ruger american (gen 1) in 6mm creedmoor.
Bolt is smooth as sand, trigger sucks, magazine well we all know how cheap and just dumb those are, the stock is horrible.
I would get rid of it if it wasn’t the most accurate rifle in my safe.

The old Mini-14’s had a lot of issues for sure. They recently(ish) updated them. I bought one last year and its been great. No accuracy issues either like the old ones.

I purchased a Bergara MGLite in 6.5PRC. The rifle was $3,100.00. It would shoot 5 rounds 1MOA at 100 yards and after then it would be all over the place. Let it cool down and it would shoot 1MOA again, but as it got hot the accuracy would decline.

I did not find this acceptable for a rifle of that expense. I have since learned that others have experienced the same. I sold the rifle and bought a used Seekins Precision Havak Bravo in 6.5PRC problem solved.

Remington 700 BLD 25-06 bought in 2011 or 2012.
Beautiful rifle but something was wrong with that gun! It kicked like a mule and wouldn’t do better than 1.5”. I traded it in on a Ruger MkII 25-06 and never looked back.
Second would be an early Howa 1500 22-250. Barrel was way too thin. Two rounds in one hole and the third was off 6”.

Hard question as I have never met a gun I didn’t like. But I did inherit a new mossberg patriot in 243. Have not shot it yet but from watching the videos from backfire and UR- I am concerned if I should just get rid of it or give it a try.
