Hey Jim or anyone else at Backfire… I have a 1895 Marlin that I really need a Backstop on. That Marlin butt pad is a brick. I bought a Ranger Point butt stock and it isn’t much better, if at all. The Ranger Point butt stock is kind of a slip on deal, not really a great design. However, because of the design on the butt stock (I think your 357 Henry has the same) I can drill holes in the butt stock and make any buttpad work. I just bolt that sucker on and trim the bolts to be flush on some nylock nuts. What I need to know is, of the Backstop offerings you have today, which rifle butt pad is the biggest in terms of length - top of buttstock to bottom? I have measured it against my Boyds, my 870 and my Bergara Crest. The Ranger Point is about 1/2" to 7/16" longer than the Bergara.
The pad for the Sako 90 is 131mm tall. It’s the tallest we have so far that has a traditional shape and plate.
Anyone that has shot a Marlin 1895 45-70 Govt knows that it kills on both ends!
Backstop Recoil Pad needed for Ruger Marlin 1895 45-70 Govt.
And while at it, don’t forget the hunting legend Marlin 336 30-30!
I agree that a 45-70 back stop is needed for us midwestern deer hunters that normally harvest our deer up to 100-200 yds. Heck most are taken well under that yardage. We don’t have the luxury of those long distant shots like western hunters do. So please Backfire, don’t forget about us high power short shot shooters that take quite a beating developing loads, just ask our shoulders. ![]()
All right, we’re on it. I’ll add it to the list. Right now we only have 5 that we’re working on so it will probably be within 6 weeks.
Your a wonderful man you are, Thank you!
I heard on the Jan, 23 podcast that Jim was adding the Marlin series to the Backstop list of pads. Jim, a great big “thank you” from all us 45-70 1895 SBL owners.
