Guess they are competing against the 8.6 BO??
Yep, I guess. Have you shot some 308 win subsonics at around 1100 fps…they are really quite even without a suppressor. Where does a 2000 fps 175 bthp fit in the “what you can do with it” scale? I dont do subsonics or short range caliber with the ballistics of this new round, but is it used for pigs or what? Just wondering.
Never shot a 308 subsonic. I have shot a few 300 blackouts. They were fun but I don’t know that I’d ever want to hunt with one.
Kind of amazed, the 338 Federal isn’t that old of a round, but was a major lead balloon and flopped. But now we have two brand new 338 offerings. But I also don’t know how popular the 8.6 blackout is. I don’t know how much Market there is that Hornady is now trying to get into and split up.
Yeah, I dont hunt with the subsonic rounds, but they are quiet. We were shooting them off my back porch under a roof and the db was like a 22lr, just fun to shoot.
anyway, was just wondering.
thanks
Yes and no. The 338 ARC is mated to the AR15 platform, where as the 8.6BLK is AR10 platform.
The 338 ARC just looks whacky to me; very short case (by design) and projectile that is more pointed and not as impactful [IMO] as the 8.6BLK.
Kinda weird to me…
It shoots the same projectiles as 8.6 at the same subsonic speeds as 8.6 out of a small frame AR (and has better case fill and powder burn for those sorts of loads), for subs its a straight upgrade to .300blk and 8.6 blk. For supers 8.6 has it beat because of case capacity.
Thanks William, good info.
